Richt relishes lower expectations

Didn't you know that U[sic]GA is the strongest team in the SEC? You gotta be the strongest on the bottom to hold everyone up above you.

Well now, this is an interesting thing. We hear constantly about how UGAG is an elite program. Elite entities constantly have high expectations - it is one of the definitions of "elite." To cease to have them is to cease to be elite.

GA Tech is an elite academic institution. GA Tech has to deal with elite expectations every minute of every day, academically. The minute we cease to think that way, we will cease to be seen as an elite institution.

So what's our conclusion? That UGAG is an elite program relishing the ability not to have elite expectations?

He's setting the nadlicker nation up for when he goes 7-5 they won't come down on him hard and it will buy him another year. awe schucks, I swear I hear st. bobby in there somewhere.

I think it's a good strategy. UGA will do better than people think, and this will further validate them as "elite." The message will be: Even when you think we're down, we're still better than most. And you know what, at this point in time, I think they can make that statement. Personally, I believe UGA will finish near the top 10 this year. If they do that after losing the QB, RB, and WR, they deserve to keep the "elite" tag.

One of the difference between good coaches/teams and great coaches/teams is that great coaches/teams can still perform under high expectations.

See the Patriots/Belechik, UNC/Roy Williams, etc.

This is just my opinion, but things like motivation, expectations and the like, are a really bad thing to try to strategize. As for your comments, all I'm going to say is that is your opinion, I disagree with it but that's what opinion is about. Myself I think UGA's failure or success will be entirely determined by Richt's gameday abilities, because the only teams they might sneak up on are LSU and Florida. Everyone else will treat them serious whether UGA is up, down or rolling over dead.
