For once, we have a candidate this is recognized nationwide and the man is starting to get assasinated on the hive a great deal as expected but, I'm disappointed that a few here on this board have chimed in.

As Dems, has said, he checks out ok, but some have taken that pompous better than you attitude that Matech can be notorious for, and started a campaign to assasinate him, before Drad can seriously consider him.

I think he would jump start our program like none of thy other candidates we are looking at, and would give us someone that would go head to head with Richt and Uga and we are the winner...But, it looks like some are trying to assasinate him unjustly.

I had Jimbo Fisher as my 1st choice by far, but I have an open mind and now have thought it through and feel like RN would be the homerun we need, in order to beat Uga...I just wish more people would stand up for him, if they like him and the one's that are trying to derail him would be honest and if there is a speck in their eye, remove it 1st, before trying to pull out a supposdley speck, that is in RN's eye..It would be a small speck at that, in his eye, if there is one...

Sorry, for the vent, but, it really irks me, when people are so hypocritical..

He's not my first choice and I see many are really strongly against him BUT....One thing is for sure, if he were to become GT's next HC, the last thing we need to do is pick up where we left off with Chan. IOW, at that point we can't change anything so let's get behind him in the same manner we would had our individual 1st choice been selected.

What I see is a guy who inherited good prgrams and did mediocre with his players at Col, Wash, and his kids were always having discipline problems- He is not what we need at all. Mccartney wasnt any better discipline-wise, and Neihisel continued the tradition

Anyone care to offer up another REALISTIC candidate that is proven as much and has won as much as slick Rick?

1gtfan, I think the reason names are being put out there is in order to gauge feelings.

Regarding Colorado player problems, I think it is possible that the inmates had already taken over the asylum before RN took over. That's not an excuse and yet the Tech environment is quite different right now.

Besides DRad has repeatedly made decisions in the SEC mold. Maybe he thinks you can only win with problem kids?

I did not follow RN's career all that much. But, I do know he was good at Colorado, then at Wash. If he's our guy I trust Rad to make that decision. If he's not then I trust Rad to get the next guy. But many of you will try to assassinate him (RN) even before he steps foot on the hallowed grounds of HGF. Leave the guy alone and you people who supported Gailey he's gone thank god so quit crying! I know many are crying about Mr Mediocre, maybe better thing are ahead for GT.

OldFoggy,

For once I agree with you! :laugher:

I have read speculation tha RN may be in line for the possible job opening at his alma-mater --UCLA. He has also been mentionad as Joe Patero's possible replacement --of course Jo Pa's probably going to coach until he's 90+.

The only thing that concerns me about Neuheisel is that he actually did (despite others blaming Gary Barnette) have NCAA infractions placed on his teams because of things done under his watch. I would worry that this is a quick fix and wouldn't expect Neuheisel to be around in four more years. When he left, would he leave us holding the bag? Ultimately, I don't know, but it is a big concern.

That said, I think he is a scary good coach.

I think you might agree, that he is the best candidate so far, that would be able to at least match what uga has in Richt, and possibly be better for us. He would be viewed as one of the better coaches in the country and we had him here at GT. Of course no one really knows, but, like you said, he looks to be scary good. Like Hatcher, it would give Drad a chance to leave his mark as AD. In other words, he like Hatcher has the most upside of all the candidates in my opinion.

Somehow, I believe if Drad chooses RN, he would have to really get assurances or things written in the contract that makes it very hard for another school to hire him away. (I don't know if that is possible) And like you, that is a slight concern of mine, but, what else is new, this comes up everytime we hire a coach, worrying that he might bolt for greener pastures.

Well, I personally like all the candidates thus far. I think Edsall could be a great coach. I think Neuheisel could be a great coach. I think Hatcher or Mushamp could be great. I think Tenuta could be great.
Personally I'd be happy and supportive with any of the above.

Will they remains to be seen.

The advantage that Tenuta, Hatcher, and ESPECIALLY Muschamp have over Edsall and Neuheisel is that they understand how to recruit the Southeast.

While Neuheisel is a great recruiter, recruiting the pacific northwest, and recruiting the Bible Belt of the Southeast, are two different animals. Muschamp, Hatcher, and Tenuta bring in instant connections on the recruiting trail, and Neuheisel and Edsall DON'T.

I agree for sure.
But, I believe Neuheisel brings us National attention and a good possibilty we recruit nationally better than we ever have. If he retained Giff and we possibly brought Collins back, we would still do great here in the south..

RN has been a controversial individual almost everywhere he has been. He was involved in a gambling accusation that was totally mishandled by UW and the NCAA so I will pass on this. He played an illegal player at Colorado in 1997 that cased the school to forfeit every game. Even more shameful the team only had a 5-6 record.

I have posted his HC record in college, followed by high school the followed by the pros. Certainly an unusual progression. In every case except high school his teams have gotten progressively worse under his tenure.

As a whole ex pro coaches do not make good college coaches. I know someone will quote an exception to this so go ahead. It will be the exception not the norm. Also our last coach came from the pros.

GT demands and deserves a quality and honorable coach with unquestionable integrity. I do not see RN fitting this criteria therefore he is not a viable choice.

If we took Neuheisel, at least there'd be one vacant NFL OC job that Chan could apply for. We wouldn't want the man going hungry after we so rudely kicked him to the curb.

If he's such a great coach and there's nothing wrong with him why has he not been hired after all these years?

Kirbee:

Maybe because he was fired with allegations in mid-2003, won a settlement with firm evidence and cleared his name in 2005, and it takes a while for perception to catch up to reality?

Also an NFL coordinator is a comparable position to a mid-major or even lower-BCS-league D1A head coach.

With $4.5 million in the bank --I'd have taken a couple of years off too. He must have decided to get back into the game in 2005.

The ONLY name-clearing Neuheisel can claim

...won a settlement with firm evidence and cleared his name in 2005...

is WRT the NCAA Tournament Pool allegations. He has not been cleared of proven wrong-doing at Colorado or Washington which resulted in both schools being placed on probation. Nor has he been cleared of sanctions by the AFCA pertaining to his recruiting antics at Colorado.

C'mon, GT folks are smarter than this! Can you not see the pattern? At best he has complete disdain for NCAA rules; at worst, he's just a cheater. Either way, I want no part of him and I can't believe that my school does.

What's Dan's famous quote from his very first meeting with all GT coaches? Something like, "Win, graduate your players and don't cheat," I believe. Walk the walk, DR.
