Risk vs. reward

I can put up with blown coverage on a TE by a true frosh who will play in the NFL. Why? the reward outweighs the risk.

We can forgive and forget a frosh WR who drops a key 3rd down pass since his potential reward and even current reward is far greater than the risk of him dropping a key pass.

Morgan jumping offsides is worth the risk because he is a solid guy in that setup who will dominate one day. I can understand the risk with the reward being so great.

What I won't understand is if we have the same punt returner next week or after that. We've got a Marist punt returner playing D1 football. the only logical reason to have him back there is he won't fumble. So now that we have lost a game in large part to his fumble, here's hoping we can at least put someone back there who could return for Tucker or Norcross rather than Marist.

The punt returner situation has baffled me for years; we never have a playmaker back there returning punts; it is always some walk-on type player who always gets like 5 to 10 yard returns. We need to reference Cal with Desean Jackson; you could say that he was a BIG factor in their win over UT in week one.

I don't know why we didn't put Corey Earls back there... now he is hurt. Maybe DJ Donley?

Sadly, we couldn't just fair catch the punt at that point?? Gailey and crew knew we had a better chance of advancing it there instead of trying to move it with TB. I mean ------DAMN! Can we do anything more creative on Offense. The OL needs to sit in a room this week and watch the best block in the game- by Corry Earls. Atleast he wanted to win!! Now he is lying in a Hosp in C-Ville. Our OL should watch and feel ashamed.

Seeing him fumble, knowing that is the only reason at all he is on the field, is very similar to the feeling I used to get when I would hit a 4-iron off the tee on a tight par-4 to be "safe" and then would hook the @#!^ thing into the woods anyway. I quit doing that years ago - if I'm going to mess up, I'd rather do it with my driver. I am sure he's a good kid and just as sick as any of us about that fumble but now that we know he IS capable of fumbling, put somebody back there who is a threat. We need to utilize all of our tools.

There is a difference in "not fumbling" in practice than doing it in front of 50,000 people when the game is on the line.

I've never understood why we don't put a potential play maker back there (Earls, Evans, Dwyer). The whole Possession returner angle baffles me, espcially when he drops the ball.

Grow some balls and put somebody dangerous back there. Fielding a punt shouldn't be difficult for a 1A scholarship player.
