Roddy Jones Pulls The Trigger

Be more specific. He COMMITTED to GT today. He just doesn't want to go to GT, he's going to GT next year!

He committed to GT!!

Just hold on gang. Things are going to get fun by Monday. I mean they're already fun times with recruiting, but this weekend is going to be interesting.

Question...

Wasn't there a report earlier today or yesterday where Roddy claimed that Clemson had pulled even with GT? Shoddy reporting by a Clemson reporter or something?

Yes, it was yesterday. Wishful thinking from Clemson??!?!!!??!?!

Hayull yes, Roddy Jones! We really have the ball rolling! Chan Gailey, Giff Smith, Geoff Collins, etc....the entire staff are doing a bang-up job.

Before '06 I had screamed in vain that we had to start our recruiting emphasis in Georgia and to a certain extent Florida. Then regionally and nationally. Build relationships with Georgia highschool coaches, get recruiters on our staff with state and regional contacts. We had to rebuild bridges in our state if we was ever going to be an elite program again!

By golly, I see it happening. Better late than never.

It takes time to build up the relationships in Ga for GT everytime there is a coaching change. It's not like ugag where they are the state school and have pipelines setup whoever their coach is.
It is a combo of things but Giff, Geoff and BJ deserver most of the credit.

Like I said, better late than never.....I'm not here criticizing anyone. I don't have to point out the mistakes that Chan Gailey made his first 3 or 4 years. He has done that himself. Stubborn has hell.....but smart enough to basically start all over and is doing a helluva job.

But being 'Georgia Tech' has absolutely nothing to do with it. Or how can you explain the success other schools such as Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and Florida State have here from time to time?

What happen to Tennessee's pipeline? Answer: They lost one or two of their best recruiters.

You recall the ole baseball saying: "Momentum is only as good as that days pitcher"

So it is with recruiting: "The pipeline in place is only as good as the coaching staff maintaining it" That includes Georgia, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, USC, etc. etc.

We now have a first class staff out there recruiting. They have first class support in Gailey and RADS. The infrastruture is in place and we now have the guys in place to sell it. We are now getting ahead of the curve!

It's a great time to be a Georgia Tech fan!

GT over the past 25 years has had only 2 coaches with any GA High School connectitions from the start Bill Lewis and GOL as we all know he had some very good classes, Bill Lewis had 3 of the best recruiting classes ever at GT.
Like it or not It will probaly always be very difficult to recruit at GT because of both Curriculum and standards.
Building relationships in recruiting is an absolute must especially at GT and that generally comes with time.
It's now beggining to look like having patience with our coach and some changes on the staff is finally begining to pay dividends.

I think you will also find far more connections at the HS level to those other schools than you will to GT. That said getting the best recruiters at GT is and always will be a high priority. Losing coaches at any level on the staff is a set back, if Tenn gets hurt it hurts GT even more.

Ricky: It hurts if Tech losses a coach who also is a top notch recruiter to a rival school. Tennessee losing Rodney Garner to Georgia hurt them very badly.

Hey, Gailey made some critical mistakes in assembling his original staff, neglecting the need for top-notch recruiters with ties to Georgia high schools. Thankgoodness he has realized this was a catastrophic error if he didn't get it straigthen out. Bringing in Brian Jean-Mary, Giff Smith, Geoff Collins, Jeep Hunter, and Charles Kelly has given this staff a distinctly deep southern flavor. I'll bet there isn't a backwater town from Key West to Washington D.C. to Texarkana these 5 haven't been to. You add the job Joe D'Alessandris and Pat Nix have been doing and you have arguably one of the top 5 staffs in the SEC-ACC as far as recruiting.

People like them damn BBBuzzOFFers better hope Gailey keeps the momentum up on the field because to see this staff broken apart will set the program back several years.

Are you saying that those folks over there really want Gailey to do well?
I think I have misunderstood what you meant.

No arguement with that SL.
That said it's time for us to move our program down the road.

Most of them don't. But the consequences of a dismissal are a helluva lot higher than they would have been 2 or 3 years ago.....this staff is that good.

Good point on that. I agree.
The recent Gailey interview bothered me. To be fair to Chan, the Q and A I am referring to was only in writing. Without seeing his body language, I thought he was stand-offish and not very happy about "his" decision to hand off the playcalling to C Nix.

I just hope he buys in completely and has the skills required to run the program successfully with a CEO approach.
I am expecting the best!

I think you're reading too much into it. This is a new step for Chan so it's natural that he's still a little apprehensive. But he sounded to me like someone who's made his decision and is moving on. I'm sure he will be tempted to step back in, in the heat of the moment. But he sounds like he understands that's the worst thing he can do. It also sounds like he realizes he doesn't have the time anymore anyway.

I won't argue about me reading too much into something, but on this one I believe it's justified.
Chan seemed surprised by how much he had been missing in the past regarding the total program and he didn't seem too excited about the overseer role.

Also, his recent thoughts are not a surprise to the many that have thought he did not want to give up the "offense".
It is naieve to believe that CG suddenly this year decided on his own that he needed to be the head coach.
This is not meant to be a bash on Chan Gailey. I have thought for the last 4 years he should be running the program, and not one part of it. I don't fully understand if it was Chan or Dave that decided CG would not be at all involved with the academics of his players, but based on his recent remarks, he will be now. That's the way it should be.

If that is CG's sole decision, I am happy. If it was someone else's, I am also happy!
