I took a quick look at the roster and tried to figure out how many scholarship kids we will have heading into the spring. I figured scholarships to Nathan Burton, PJ Daniels. I wasn't sure about Economos or Higgins so that leaves with 62-63 kids(not counting Pena) on ship this spring.

That would allow us to bring in 22-23 kids this fall. I also counted 14 rising scholarship seniors for next season.

You also must figure that we will probably lose 3-5 players per year due to injury, academics, or transfer.

Now that's some solid research. So the 23 number we have been seeing bandied about is a legitimate number. Based on this, I would say 23 would be a legitimate target.

Hopefully the fact we were reluctant to offer scholarships to a punter, and to some others, means we have some guys on the hook already and the staff has managed to keep it quiet as well as the young men involved. This would mean up to 8 guys (23 scholarships minus 15 commitments equals 8 remaining commitments) have been able to keep their intentions to themselves. In my experience this is highly unusual but thinking positively, I remain hopeful this is the case.

Good job guys. Stuff you can sink your teeth into.

Jerry, regarding punter, honestly don't know what the coaching staff has in mind. Do know that Higgins could be one to look for. We also have a punter/kicker walk-on that joined the team last year from Rome GA, Christian Schroeder. Have him listed on 2002 roster as a JR and at place kicker. Do know that he punts as well. Saw him working out with the punters in practice. Have spoken with his father at practice and other events. One heck of a nice guy. Sounded like his son has terrific attitude. Never know who might emerge.
