Safety in Numbers...

Apparently there is only one more Safety in the Jackets numbers.

From what I understand, the Jackets will only be taking one more safety prospect. However, both Carlton Lewis and Brandon Leslie are intersested in that spot...not to mention an outside shot at Keanon Cooper. Apparently the ball is in Lewis' court. Brandon Leslie is scheduled to visit Tech on September 15th. Brandon will not be permitted to commit prior to his visit. If Lewis commits before the 15th, Leslie's offer may be retracted. However, if Lewis sleeps until after the 15th, Leslie may be the Jacket and Lewis' offer retracted.

Hmmm...first off, I hope that this is not true. I love Carlton Lewis and I think that he will be a phenominal safety in college. However, Leslie has hung with us and showed his loyalty when he postponed his announcement so that he could visit. Even though I think that Carlton may be a little better prospect, I think that we owe Leslie the right to commit to the Jackets if he wants to.

I seriously doubt that we are going to fill all 25 available scholarships with our first tier of prospects that are left on the board. Therefore, I would like to see the Jackets take both players if they want to come.

Of course, I also want Nick Craig to get an offer, but apparently the staff doesn't care what I think  .

** I am not 100% sure that this rumor is true. The above has not been denied nor confirmed by the Georgia Tech staff.

not that i am doubting you at all, but i wonder why Brandon is ranked so much higher and his list of offers is more impressive as well

is carlton unknown for some reason in FL?

In My Opinion, I feel like Carlton will be a great Safety in college and yes he is very much under the radar. Again, IMO he could be one of the hidden treasures in this class. If you know anything about that area from Jacksonville thru St. Augustine to Daytona, you know that they play some serious high school football there and produce numerous Division 1 prospects. St. Augustine High School is obviously in this area and they even won a state title back in '05...guess who was the starting Safety and a Receiver on that team as a Sophmore. The coaches in these areas are phenominal and they really put a lot of polished athletes onto the college fields. That is why a player like Clyde Yandell is currently ahead in the depth chart over guys like Nick Claytor...and I'll bet you didn't see that one coming either. Again, all of this only my opinion, nothing more, but after seeing film of this young man, combined with his camp performance, I think that he has the potential to be a really great player. The Tech staff obviously feels that way about him also. Carlton received an official offer immediately following camp. The Tech staff has even gone as far as to call Carlton their #1 safety on the board. As far as his ranking and offers are concerned, Carlton has not even been evaluated by Scout yet. However, Rivals evaluated him just a couple of days ago and gave him an immediate 3 stars...the same as Leslie. Leslie offers are not that much more impressive if you ask me. Plus teams like Florida, Tennesse, Clemson and Auburn have been in constant contact with Carlton. From what I understand, he is expecting Clemson and Florida to offer after his season starts. We may not even get him if this happens.

Again, the above is factual information mixed with my personal opinion. No one really knows how these players will pan out until they take the field.

Leslie really only has two confirmed offers...even ours is conditional upon him visiting Tech and our getting a chance to "eyeball" him.
I would say Lewis is a better bet for us to take.
