Sagarin Rankings drop us from 11 to 20 (link)...

Oregon State is #17. Bogus.
They hung 66 on WASU. 21 in the 1st, 3rd & 4th quarters. Had it not been for 2nd quarter turnovers, it would have been even more lop-sided.

I understand, of course, that WASU isn't exactly a top notch program. But at least they are Div I-A, as opposed to a team such as Gardner Webb. Not only that, OSU has a win against USC under their belt.

The sad thing is they don't take into account that our near miss yesterday was under our scout team QB. Then again, maybe they did, and that is why we are still at #30. We play that game 10 times with either Josh or Jaybo at QB, and it's not close 10 out of 10.

They are 3-3. Top 40? I might be on board with that, given they've played Penn State, USC, and Utah...although they weren't competitive at all against Penn State.

We will suffer in all computer polls because playing G-W kills our strength of schedule. They are ranked 203rd in Sagarin, for instance.

We are still 16th in ELO-CHESS, which is less accurate but what is used in the BCS.

Well, on the bright side, nobody's going to complain on Stingtalk this week that we're not ranked. Hehe.

I think an argument could be made that we should be in the top 25 based on what we've done in comparison with teams like Vandy, but given that we weren't going into the GW game, it's really almost impossible to justify moving us in now. I'm glad we weren't ranked, because I don't think alot of people nationally even realize we had a game, but if we were ranked then EVERYONE would have seen this score.

Does anyone remember the rankings at this point last year? If you do, do they matter now?

No, they don't, because wherever we were then (and are now) doesn't matter because we are about to find out how good or bad we are for real in the ensuing few weeks.

Yet it's okay to lose to a team that got trounced by the team that barely beat Gardner-Webb...

There is no "they". It isn't an opinion poll.

But you are correct that the results are based on what the team did and with the players on both sides that played. They can't very well be tossing around correction mulligans for various team's injury situations.

P.S.
The game shouldn't have been close even without Josh or Jaybo.

The problem is, using that line of reasoning, none of us should even post anything about the current state of the program because it won't matter two months from now.

??

Are you talking about Vandy? They aren't rated ahead of us on Sagarin.

Sorry, I neglected to quote the post I was responding to. That was in response to the statement that ranked teams don't struggle with Gardner-Webb.

I'm going to spend my time worrying about how GT is going to improve the OL play and who is starting at QB more than I'm going to worry about where the F we are ranked.

While the team is ahead of my expectations at this point (prior to the season, I would've thought 4-2 maybe 3-3) we still have not done anything worthy of being ranked.

My point is that "20" is a far more accurate description of our team than "11," and the mathematics of the Sagarin system bear that out.
