Has anyone scouted Samford to see what weaknesses it might have in its defense? People take this game for granted because they're I-AA. But we are not exactly a high octane offensive team. It might take something special to happen or this game could be a struggle that goes down to the wire.

There's an old saying about football, if you cannot score any points, then you cannot win the game.

I believe our defense has improved from when we played them two years ago and in that game we gave up 7. I also believe our offense is a little better than it was then because that was Calvin's first game. I could see a halftime score like 10-3 but with us pulling away in the second half to win 34-6 or something. IF Samford takes us to the wire, then I would think that's a sign that we aren't cut out for Div. 1-A football.

BH I agree with you as hard as that may seem. If we canntnoscore we can not win. Saturday should be a minimum of 42 IMO

If we are up 30 points, I would expect to see backups for the fourth quarter. Therefore, if we won 30-10 and all the points were given up against the second team, I wouldn't be that upset since the goal was to build depth. Just my opinion, but not getting 40+ points in return for getting some guys on the field isn't a bad tradeoff.

We had better score early and often against Samford fellas because "on paper" this is one that we should never lose, but if we continue this trend of playing not to lose, we just may do exactly that.....LOSE

I want to see Bennett and Garner get a quarter's worth of action each, and I don't want Nix (Gailey) to hold anything back.

Same thing goes for Troy.

And we had better get those issues with punt/kickoff coverage resolved quickly.

Gailey must have the game of Golf (lowest score wins) confused with Football.:laugher: :laugher:

I expect it to around 21 to 3 at halftime. Then once we reach 35 or 42, we will play the back ups. I expect the final score to be about 45 to 10. An offensive rebound in this game will renew confidence and prepare us for conference play.

I serioulsy doubt we have any problems with Samford. Probably won't beat them as bad as you might think a upper tier division 1 team should be the game will never be in doubt. Troy on the other hand - we better come with at least our 'B' game...

Usually in these games with such a huge discrepancy in opponents, the better team usually has such an advantage through the size discrepancy in the lines. We should be able to dominate through line play alone.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing our offense saturday, just seeing their execution when Reggie will have all the time in the world.
