SEC defenses are too fast

This week we get to see if what we've heard all summer is true. Are SEC defenses too fast for Coach PB&J's high school offense. MSU has one of the better defenses in the conference, and most of my SEC coworkers respect that defense. Once again the middle of our offensive line will be tested by maybe the best combination of size and speed we've seen, I expect Dwyer to have another day of knocks and bruises. Hopefully MSU's offense will continue to be as productive as they were last week and against La Tech. Question for the group is, how do you expect our offense to fair this Saturday, if our offense can generate 300+ yards and/or 20+ points, will that be enough to put the acusation that this offense will not work against SEC defenses to rest?

...for me to poop on!

In all seriousness, I think that time will tell as to whether 20+ points is respectable against MSU. We haven't seen many games from them yet. But, so far we have LaTech scoring 22 (MSU had 5 TO, but only one FG was scored directly after a TO), SE La with 10 (pity TD with 5:00 left in the game), and Auburn with 3. I wouldn't call any of those offenses spectacular, but I think any time you get 300 yds on offense against a good defense, you've had a pretty good day.

No one will care.

"MSU sucks. They aren't a typical SEC team"

Though it's true, this is how they will dismiss us.

They won't be punching the o-line as hard as the last two D's, I see us going up the middle more this game.

MSU is known for having a good secondary (especially Pegues). I agree with the shaft. Lots of FB dives.

From what I saw against Auburn, MSU's defense is very aggressive. They blew up Auburn's OL and rushed the ball.

But, Auburn was very slow getting rid of the ball. And their run plays were generally from the shotgun, so they hit the line slower.

I think MSU is going to have a lot of trouble against the option. If they rush the point of attack they they did against Auburn, expect our A-backs to have big gains.

I also expect us to have fewer turnovers. BC's DL was big. We put the ball on the ground 3 times in the first half, then adjusted to have 0 fumbles in the second. VT's DL is fast. Again, first half trouble then better after adjustments were made. MSU's DL is similar to VT's. I don't think the learning curve for our OL is going to be as step.

Finally, MSU's offense has been horrible. A few series of 3 and out, and MSU's defense is going to be gassed.

Comparing to the last two games, I'll give us an extra 3 pts for playing at home and take a 8 away from MSU for having a crappy offense. Since we are scoring and giving up 18pts per game against BCS:

GT = (18pt/avg + 3) = 21
MSU = (18pt/avg - 8)= 10

Are they any faster than VT?

I don't think they are any faster than VT. They may be a little bigger. But from what I saw, they swarm the ball carrier. That should be good for us.

The big part will be how well their O does against our D. If they can't move the ball and leave their D on the field for a long time, they will wear down.

We have played back-to-back games against two very good defenses.

MSU has a very good defense but we are more used to seeing what they have than they are used to seeing what we have (on Offense).

I like our chances but let's not deny the fact that nothing will come easy this Saturday.

We just need to assume nothing will come easy against anyone. As long as the team understands that and PJ has them ready to make the in game adjustments we need, I think we'll be fine. If we actually do play someone who is significantly superior athletically at every position we'll probably lose, but i don't know who that would be.

If we can put up points on the best defenses in the country when our offense hasn't even begun to click yet then it'll be scary when we actually do get going.

That would be USC.

If we score a bunch of points against this defense (3rd in a row facing tough D)...Clemson will be a cake-walk.

And yes, Duke, I'm overlooking you. You suck.

...for their own good.

they will think that they can just swarm to the ball against lil ole GT, and then BAM the ball is in the endzone as they tackle Dwyer on the edge tolding only their lost hopes in his hands

Based on how they jumped Auburn's plays, I think this is entirely possible.
