SEC reprimands Tenn coach for calling Urban a "cheater"

I heard audio of his outburst on the radio this morning. What an ass clown.

I don't really care about either of these schools, but I think the SEC should worry about some more pressing issues (players being arrested weekly) than reprimanding coaches who are saying things obviously meant to pump up the people who were at that breakfast. It's not like the guy took legal action or contacted the SEC. He was just doing a rah rah talk to excite the fans of Tennessee who have had a disappointing past several years. And the SEC is on his case only because he was talking about their "golden boy" Urban Meyer; if he was talking about someone like Vandy's coach, they would have turned a deaf ear. Just another example of how the SEC has their priorities out of order.

No, the SEC is coming down on him because of the blood bath Fulmer set off a few years ago about Alabama's recruiting tactics. Half of the SEC got some sort of penalty because everyone was airing everone else's dirty laundry.

The SEC then added the rule that if something improper is going on, you have to come to the SEC before the NCAA. The SEC wants the best players and knows cheating is the best way to get them. The conference doesn't care if everyone cheats, it just doesn't want the NCAA looking around at any of its schools.

This guy is truly looking like a dick in everything he does -- from his Raiduhs fiasco to his first couple months with the Vowels. He may turn out to be a great coach some day, but he's totally unproven at this point (5-15 in Oakland and "coached" Bush, Leinart, Jarrett, Steve Smith, et al at USC), and making statements like this ain't gonna make many friends amongst his colleagues.

Methinks the over/under on him getting fired just dropped to 2 years.

What is wrong with him taking the first shot? Right or wrong, at least he is showing he has some fire in him.

I dunno, couple more things like this and you've developed a good "us against the world" mentality and lets you hang on for a few more years than if you'd have played it straight.

I find all of Kiffin's antics fairly amusing, actually. Thing is, he's painting himself into a corner where he had better win, and win quickly. Particularly against Florida. I'm sure the Gators will look to give him a warm welcome to the SEC when those two schools meet.

I like it the fact he called them out. Piss on the whole SEC!!!

Please tell me that we don't call kids when they are on an official visit to another school unless the kid wants us to help him with questions, etc.

Personally, I think Meyer is pretty tacky in calling someone visiting at UT.

I don't know, fire is one thing, but publicly accussing another coach of a recruiting violation when what you accusse him of is not against any rule is just showing your stupidity.

I thought the story was the kid told FL he wasn't going to TN and then they heard he was. Meyer may have been calling to find out what the deal was and whether he actually was in Knoxville or not. For all we know, if the kid has answered, Meyer may have told him to stay there because he wasn't wanted at FL any more.

That sounds familiar.

wow so much for this guy taking the high road early. All I can say is he better be able to "walk the walk" or Urban will be putting 1/2$ scores on the mighty vols for the next few years :laugher:

just as long as UF continually beat down the muts I could care less about this however if Tenn can beat down the Mutts TOO that would be sweet
He is just 33 years old and has alot to learn, Urban may put a whupping on his ass though.

From what I hear down here in the papers and on TV, Urban and the Gators are REALLY looking forward to seeing the Vols come to town next September.

You mean Urban pulled a PJ?

During the same press conference, (and I'm only paraphrasing here) he also called his new class of recruits "not as good as the class should be and worse than next years", which couldn't sit very well with the new Vols. Maybe the UT AD could hire a "minder" for him, because he sure has shown the ability to put his foot deeply in his mouth.
