Someone earlier on thought it would be fun to revisit the polls during the season to see how our confidence changes during the season. So, here it is.

Preseason poll: http://www.stingtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84282

The results of the preseason poll had us at 0.748 to win.

How likely are we to win this week?

RESULTS:

Pre-season: 0.748
2nd chance: 0.534

Change: -0.214

LOL, you negative nancies realize who we're playing, right? Anything could happen, obviously, but we are playing UNC at home. If there was ever a time for our offense to turn our around, this is it.

I am more confident we win this one than last week. I think Duke is much better than UNC this year, and I have a feeling the two losses will be a big dose of reality to get the players minds' right.

Only nerds would try and use a poll to make sense of what's going on right now.

I'm 65% confident. Bumped it up to 0.7. It's a must win at home, and I just can't fathom losing to both NC teams two years in a row. Special teams issues should be easily fixable. I think the offense is gonna have a hard week of practice and come out looking much better. The defense will continue to at least give us a chance to win.

Old poll seems legit.

ST preseason polls gave us 50/50 vs Notre Dame and 80% beating Duke. I think both of those were pretty good estimates, and would probably play out about that way in a 10 game series.

Did anyone ever summarize the offseason polls to establish an Expected Win Total for the year?

Not optimistic. We lost last year, our D hasn't stopped them in 2 years, and UNC brings absolutely everyone back from last year. Fedora has a potent offense and we haven't stopped his offense the last 2 years. I thought preseason ND and UNC would be our toughest 2 because of experience. I get that UNC sucks, but they sure as hell don't suck against us lately.

I still think GT has a decent chance against the rest of our schedule past UNC because there is so much rebuilding at uga, FSU and Clemson. All 3 are overrated. VT, UVA, Pitt all suck. Miami is rebuilding and they suck. Not giving up on GT at all, I just genuinely don't like our odds with UNC in particular.

I like how the poll has an almost perfect distribution top to bottom. Except for .5 which leads. Nobody knows what the hell to make of this GT team now.

You're right. If we lose this game, we are 100% ööööed.

We are going to absolutely destroy - DESTROY - North Carolina. This will be a beating so brutal that a meeting in a dark room will take place to coordinate stepping up their illegal recruiting practices just to recoup some of what they lost. Somewhere, some poor nurse is going to have a long afternoon constantly changing Julius Peppers' diapers before she looks at the score at halftime and, overcome with merciful compassion, smothers him with a pillow. Anyone wearing powder blue within 100 miles of Atlanta will evaporate and confused hordes of the faithful will take to the streets asking God why they weren't taken up in the Rapture but they'll get no answer because he'll be trying to bar the gates to heaven after billions of souls in hell have finally reached their breaking point when faced with the sudden influx of UNC fans and they'll leave the burning depths in droves. And then we're going to run up the score.

I'm at about a .5 on this.

You said the same thing about Duke. Minus the .5 part.

You're right. If we lose this game, we are 100% ööööed.

If by ööööed you mean fighting for a bowl bid, then yeah, probably.

I look at it this way - we played like complete and absolute öööö the last two games, but could have beat ND with an onside kick recovery, and should have beaten Duke with just one more drive at the end.

Even if we don't improve much on offense (which we undoubtedly will), we'll win some of those close games at the end. I thought we would win 9 games preseason, now I'm going with 8. I still think we'll beat a lot of teams, and we would look a lot better without such a brutal schedule.
