Sewak

I know the results are there for everyone to see, but I'm really curious if anyone has any further insight here.

How do the kids respond to Sewak?
How much does he help CPJ in-game adjustments/blocking tweaks?

A nice blocking tweek would be having them block someone, anyone.

This. I know it's bad when the defense doesn't respect your passing game and puts 9 in the box and brings them all. But when they were rushing 3 and getting to Thomas... those were the facepalm moments.

This is very unclear.

Is he Homer Simpson, or the bear?

Hmm, fair point.

I was thinking Homer Simpson to start, but he could definitely be the bear.

PS, thanks for leaving my kayak alone.

He seems to shadow CPJ on the sideline every game so that's kind of the basis of my question. So, I'm trying to balance that with the fire Sewak talk. How much in-game adjustment knowledge would we lose?

I have no idea - just curious.

Adjustment knowledge? Ha! Our guys can't carry out the basics and have struggled most years under Sewak, with the exception of last year where Shaq Mason decided he would be the entire OL. This year, unfortunately, has culminated into one giant clusteröööö.

Just as a thought exercise go look at the resumes of the rest of our offensive coaching staff and see who has been more successful running this offense on their own.

He and Johnson are best buds, no way he gets fired. The best hope would be some other job opening. OC at Kennesaw State?

I think Sewak is the most worthless coach we've had on staff since Dave Wilson. And that's saying something considering we dealt with Patrick Nix as long as we did.

That's really the crux of the issue that I'm wrestling with here.

Look, no one needs to understand all the nuances and intricacies of our offense to see the OL is just down right pathetic. So, I'm balancing THAT with the fact that CPJ obviously doesn't mind canning shitty coaches, and the whole nepotism/friend thing seems silly to me, too.

I'm just curious what Sewak's responsibilities are or what he brings to the table.

Number 1, KSU would not have him. Number 2 does CPJ let Sewak cost him his job.

He needs to go. Coaching this year in particular but as well as past years has been between sub-par and dreadful.

Our oline play has been subpar for 7.5 out of 8 years under CPJ and Sewak. The only time they looked like they were a team strength is the second half of last season. We have continually had 5th year seniors in this program with multiple years as starters look like they have not improved. When guys who have played two full seasons are stating in interviews that they are confused as to who to block, well... that shouldn't ever happen.

This isn't and hasn't been a "this year" problem. Its constantly been a problem. Every öööö year since Paul Johnson has been coach he has made statements in pressers multiple times in a season that the oline isn't performing well. The only years he hasn't harped on that is 2009 and 2014. In 2013 he stated that he was going to start getting "very involved" in the coaching of the oline as it wasn't up to standard.

At what ööööing point does CPJ get rid of the elephant in the room being Mike Sewak??? Its gotten öööö ridiculous that Sewak next to Ted Roof is the highest assistant on the staff. The guy is clearly the most under-performing coach since Dave Wilson and that's saying something since Geis and Nix were here after Wilson. The fact that this guy collects a pay check still is beyond stupid.

Does anyone remember an interview with CPJ where he says something to the effect of relying on one key offensive lineman that can read the whole of the defense and direct the offensive line? Said something like we had that in Shaq Mason but were missing it this year.

That statement struck me as odd at the time. Why is one of your players providing your other players the assignments they need to make? A breakdown in the coaching technique for sure. Not everyone is ready.

We have no drive blocking game. Defenders slip right under us at the mesh. Our youngest players are the only ones that seem able to block into the second level. Linemen are not learning, they are out of position, they can't identify who their assignments are, we have zero pass protection - man or zone protection. There are a zillion spread teams. There is no reason we can't hire someone better suited to handle our offensive line.
