He was a kid coming here with a very different football background from (Georgia) Tech, but he still uses a lot of those tools from there that he can apply now, and it makes him do some special things in the run game.

Offensive linemen need to take note that it all isn't just standing in a 2 point stance and pass blocking. Sometimes, you gotta drive the defender back into the endzone - GT driveblock style

He blasted defensive tackle Kyle Williams and drove him into the end zone to open a huge hole for Mike Gillislee during his easy 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Good read. Glad to hear he is doing so well.

..."when you’re out there, you’re trying to take another man’s will,” Shaquille Olajuwon Mason said.

If he wasn't the best lineman I've ever seen in a Tech uniform his senior year, he was in the top 3.

So much for the myth that you can't pass block at the next level if you go to GT:
On the whole, Mason has allowed three sacks this season, which is the fewest among the Patriots’ full-time starting linemen, and he hasn’t surrendered any since Week 5. His eight quarterback hits are the second fewest to Andrews, and Mason has given up just a single pressure (disruption without a hit).

Great article...agree he may be the best player under the CPJ era. I’ll never forget the devastation he caused in Athens a few years ago.

The Boston Herald ... which just declared bankruptcy.
But still love to see Shaq get some pub. I think Pro Football Weekly had him rated as the No. 1 guard in the NFL earlier this year.

PFF has him rated as the #8 guard in the NFL.

I would estimate there are 3 guards per team and 32 teams...so 8 out of 96ish.

Solod.

Agreed that he’s arguably the best Tech player under CPJ. Our ‘14 offense was one of the best offenses in modern history (seriously) and he was a big part of that. And he was a nobody coming out of HS that Tennessee didn’t even offer.

Our 2014 team showed what we can do with a good OL. We were absolutely unstoppable against UGA, FSU, and MSU in back-to-back-t0-back games to end the season. It was at the point where I wished we could have had a shot against Alabama.
