Should it have been called a touchdown?

Should USF's goal line fumble have been called a TD?

I agreed with Roddy, I thought he was over the line before he lost control of the football. But vote as you may.

Not saying we didn't deserve to win the game so spare me.

It looked to me like he sort of thrust the ball out toward the goal line and lost control of it somewhere in that reach. I think he might have lost control before it hit the goal line but not sure.

Probably a case of whatever was ruled on the field was going to be near impossible to be overturned.

I still peeved about the no-call on the hold in the endzone that USF turned into a 50 yard play that completely changed the game.

Stands as called on the field. I'm glad they initially ruled it a fumble instead of a touch down, because it wasn't getting overturned either way. Super close.

I'll never understand why they don't have a permanent camera set up looking directly down the goal line in every stadium. And for that matter, put one on top of the first down marker chains, as well.

you can't say Smoov's TD:fumble in athens was miscalled yet stand by the usf fumble ruling...

being objective- of course, ours was a TD and usf's was a fumble with gold colored glasses

Not the same. JT's "fumble" was after forward progress had ended. It was pile and the refs should have blown the play dead. He got in, but I can understand not calling the TD, it was not as clear as day. The fumble (strip) however was complete b.s. The play was stalled and the refs just let it go on for what felt like an eternity. That game was heavily called in uga's favor. Re-watch the fake kick uga did. Their outside blocker was holding our contain guy on the play side, in broad daylight, and a completely open field. The blocker has to release on outside plays like that. No way the kicker gets the first down without a hold there. I think it resulted in a FG from inside the 5. Should have been a 10 yard penalty, and maybe a punt. uga's blocked kicks in the game were straight up illegal, too. Bull rushing the snapper. No calls.

But, the worst was the pile up "fumble" against uga with Reggie in 2006. No whistle and the f'n refs are pulling bodies off the pile, and a LB for uga scopes up the ball and returns it. WTF!!!!

Don't know what the rule is anymore, but his forward progress was stopped short of the goal line and then he reached with the ball. They now call that second effort. It used to be "spot the ball where his progress stopped". My gut says he scored, but no way in hell I could prove it.

Maybe we could ask Jasper Thanks what he thinks.

Voted that it was called correctly. Refs on the field made what they thought was the correct call. It was reviewed with not enough evidence to overturn. Understand that's likely not exactly what the OP asked, but explaining my vote.

Regarding 2014 game and others, does it seem like certains refs (and particularly in our SEC reffed games against the Dwags) wait an extraordinary amount of time to blow a whistle?

This tells me that Chan played the game straight while the other coach probably saw who the refs were and knew they'd be weenies in a big game.

By the way, UGA has too much to lose now at the end of their seasons. So I see these issues only getting worse. The NCAA and the SEC both are good at protecting the Top Ten.

I think it was a TD. The runner reached the ball out over the goal line. Our guy then knocked the ball loose and recovered the "fumble."

I thought he lost control pulling the ball back, not reaching it out. TD for me. Lucky play, frankly Tech deserved one of those, and after handing USF the game last year with special teams and turnovers, good to see this one go the other way.

Hey you forgot the option who gives a öööö.

Also it wasn’t a TD. His forward progress was stopped and he fumbled trying to reach over. Plus if a guy like cincy says it was a touchdown then obviously you know you’re wrong if you agree with him.

The refs did similar for Reggie's fumble. They were sorting through the pile when a Gagger picked it up and ran it back. If the refs are holding our players at bay to keep them from JOP-ing, then UGAg shouldn't be allowed to pick it up and run it to the endzone

I should have read your entire post first....but Reggie call was horrible

As mentioned by another poster, we got screwed on the holding call on the 50 yard run. I called it during the play
