Should we throw a little more often?

Back in the flats. BeBe downfield. Roddy. Lucas. Screen. Bueller?

Wouldn't this loosen things up monstrously? Set the D on their heels? Open up lanes?

I don't mean to question Coach Johnson. It just looks like a smart thing to me.

Secret weapon?

I think there will be a lot more passing plays in the game plan for UVa. Then CPJ will decide how much to throw as the game progresses.

Yes, we should pass more often. Nesbitt should also pass more accurately, and our receivers should catch balls that hit them in the hands more often.

The latter two are the problem, I think. If we were capable of executing the pass plays better I think PJ would call them more often. We left some 14 points on the field by not catching passes when we did call them, vs Clemson.

I'd rather us run the veer to perfection. As boring as it is to watch, I'd rather that we didn't have to throw the ball.

I think the pass is always open because of how dedicated we are to running the option. Teams play 8-9 in the box and sometimes crash the corners as well. I think we should pass more to loosen up the run focus of the defense or to at least take advantage of that focus until we get the option clicking. Right now I think our offense would be lost without a few key big plays in the passing game.

I'de like to see it ran to prefection too, but when you heart skips beats when you watch the "mesh" between JD & JN it nice to know a high percentage pass is an alternative. I understand the OL is challanged by the new scheme, however, when JN has to decide weather to stick the ball or Voss's ass in his Dwyer's gut ..its reasonable to think about some passing.

Don't get me wrong: CPJ is Incredible and were blessed to have him. He can flat out coach - but the kids have to execute.

I don't understand all this nashing about the mesh. If you watch Josh's touchdown play it was run absolutely perfectly. We will get better in that department. The true area we will really need to improve on if offensive line play. Still way too much penetration yesterday. Those guys have to step up. They are quality athletes who are capable of being coached. It is mid season and it is time to stop hiding behind technique changes. It is time for the line to change or get changed.

I think if we threw it more often, we wouldn't have those wide open pass plays that now seem to be a staple of our game. If we can just convert those(ie don't drop a wide-open TD pass like last game), we will be getting more than enough production out of our passing game.

I think we should keep the passing plays about where they are at the moment.

What I did notice the past few games is that we are running the dive a little too much. Dwyer is like a human tackling dummy 90% of the time when we run the dive. Yes, he does break a few every now and then, but still, that is about 1 in every 10.

I notice that we use the dive to set up the pitch and the pass, but I don't know why we have neglected to try and use the pitch to set up the dive. Widen out the defense so the middle of the field will open up, instead of collapsing the middle with the dive so that you can free up the outside. Then again, I am not a football coach so I am probably ignoring something that the coaches know from hours of breaking down film.

When you fumble and lose possession during two nice, sustained drives; it really messes up the play calling progression. And CPJ is all about progression.

I was worried too about JD getting beat up. He look whipped on the side lines all fourth quarter. Plus, they sat him for Pat Clark on the kick off returns.

Tony Clark. Pat is no longer at Tech.

This question will arise every year, as it did EVERY year at GSU. CPJ is a winner, these kids are winners, we are going to be just fine.

A little more often, yes; a lot more unexpectedly, for sure. Forgive an old-timer, but what I remember most about Tech's last venture with the 3-0 was how unexpectedly the pass attempts broke. EVERY play looked at the outset like another run option - dive fake then QB down the line. defense would respond as they had been coached to do then ...... QB took a quick little drop, receivers who had run at their guys as if to (again) block broke past them, wide open.

We sent receivers to the NFL doing that (Steve Raible, Drew Hill).

Even better would be an A-Back pass off the toss sweep. Who would ever see that coming? Name your poison time for the defense.

Yeah, but I'm not saying change to a passing offense. I'm just saying hit the open man over the middle. Everybody is guaranteed to key on the line. Open it up.

Oh, look a post!

My observation is that one of the quirks of this offense is that it does not allow you to use the pass to set up the run. If you are passing consistently then you are setting yourself up for a lot of 3 and outs.

The three parts of the triple set eachother up. You run inside to set up outside and vice versa.

We need to block before we can pass.
