SI with a stupid article about PJ

He may not call it "the perfect option". But, have you seen the cover of the media guide?

C'mon. They may have gottent that wrong, but the overall article is pretty good.

I think "The Perfect Option" is a retarded slogan. It's just so lame and obvious...like last year, whenever Tashard had a great game the headlines would read "Tashard is right Choice for Jackets".

argh, how bout some creativity?

The only problem is that it perpetuates the myth that A) we never throw the ball and B) our offense is this whimsical, antique throw back to the days of yore with nothing in common with todays spread option offenses.

That was the AJC, and they haven't been creative in years.

Hell, I like for people to perpetuate this myth, especially opposing coaches.

Jagodzinski on Wednesday kept calling it the wishbone. I hope they are relying on defending the wishbone. Might make our offensive sets run even better. ;) http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/..._option_offense/srvc=collegesports&position=1

Really, really dumb article. Lets go line by line.

Indeed, of the 18 Division I-A coaches in new positions this year, nine installed a variation of the spread, the pass-happy system that has swept college football (SI, Aug. 11).

The "typical" shotgun spread option runs more than passes. WV ran 70% of the time under RR.

"the perfect option," as Johnson calls it

That's not what he calls it. He calls it, funnily enough, "The Spread," and has been calling it that since he invented it well before anyone started running the standard shotgun spread option.

That's a far cry from what was heard before the season opener, when Johnson—who also used the triple option in winning consecutive I-AA championships in 1999 and 2000 as coach at Georgia Southern—was besieged by a legion of vociferous doubters.

Legion of whom? I can't name 10 people who said PJ's offense wouldn't work in Div1A. Generally one would think "legion" > 10.

Thanks beej. I was going to point out everything, but I'm lazy. :D

Your other points make sense...but where have you been? Tons of people have said it won't work...many of them are still saying it.

Heck, I can think of AT LEAST 92,000 people that are about an hour east of here that think it won't work.

Unfortunately I have a few Ugay buddies...good guys but dumber than ****.
They know that CPJ's offense WILL work. They just think it wont work against them. Arrogant bastards.

That "legion" still thinks the world is flat and that sleeping with your sister is not only acceptable, but preferred. They also have trouble reading, so we may want the Red & Black to use this image, rather then words:

I apologize for the lousy pun.

Guys, it's an article in SI, it's positive and the picture that goes with it looks good. If you want 100% accuracy you're saying you don't want any pub.

Okay, so name who runs the "typical" shotgun spread so we can figure out who runs it more than they throw it. It really doesn't matter. They're making the point that what we do is different and it is. Expecting SI to actually know the difference is asking too much. Plus there are tons of people who still don't think it will work.

Ask the Athens Pre-K boys what they thought of the option in 2004? They. Could. Not. Stop. It. Even with at least 8 of their front line defenders in the game against Georgia Southern. They know all about PJ, and they are scared crapless. Don't let them make you think otherwise.
And if anybody thinks PJ is averse to the pass, check out the 1985 and 1986 I-AA national championship games. Tracy Ham wound up with more than 900 yards of total offense in those two games, and threw for about 730 in those two.

The SI piece appears to have been written by someone who has never seen a PJ-coached team in action.
Wait til he starts the speed option on the edge with Nesbitt and Dwyer.
