Anyone care to know the star rankings from scout for the matchup last Saturday?

GT 5-1,4-2,3-6,2-12,1-1
U 5-4,4-10,3-5,2-1,1-2

Surprising thing is all three 2/1 stars for Miami are on their D line. Also, an interesting fact is that our entire O-line was two stars and the TE was a one.

If I understand correctly, this means the cumulative stars for U was 79, while our total was 56.

A bit further, the star delta was 23. Is it coincidence that Miam-ughs point total was also 23?
I think not. :wow:

Happy Halloween!

Although I feel the "star system" is overall pretty accurate, I feel that the most important part is developing talent and as this example shows, it seems that we do a helluva job developing talent.

Mmiami is having problems like Tenn did last year. How is Fla doing with their 4 star athletes? how about Auburn, LSU, and Texas? Recruiting isn't everything, or else there would be no reason to play the games. But it is a hell of a lot. Just ask Duke.

Recruiting is key, but the point is identifying kids who can play, not worrying about stars. In many cases the analysts take their cue from coaches and who coaches are interested in when they rank players. But they also miss on many who they simply don't know enough about. The fact that so many of our seniors contribute every week shows that Chan and his staff have been able to identify players no matter what the services see in them.

However, the reason our class is so exciting this year is that we've been able to get involved with kids who the services and coaches agree on and get some name commitments. These kids are, as a whole, better athletes than we've gotten in the past few years. That doesn't mean our current players aren't talented. But it may mean we're upgrading the team as a whole with this class. The exciting thing to me is that since our staff has proven their ability to see who's a real player and who isn't, that must mean these kids really are the real deal because you know we aren't blinded by the ink.

Tenn, Florida, Texas and Auburn are all football factories. Has LSU actually beaten anybody? And none of them are doing any better than Arkansas, West Virginia or Louisville.

So how many four star athletes does Oregon State have? How many does Cal have? USC?

For that matter, how about UGA, Miami and FSU? How about Wake and BC?

Your point might make sense if Tenn, Texas and Auburn didn't have every other advantage in the world over Wake or BC. There just doesn't seem to be a reasonably valid correlation to recruiting rankings. I'd bet money that the stadium size or total spend correlates as well as recruiting rankings.

It's just too easy to go out and find total jokes like James Johnson or Philip Wheeler being 2 stars. Even a layman like me could tell when they were true freshmen that there was no way these guys should be ranked below 'average' (3 star in our league).
