That's going to be an exciting match up! I'm hoping he can handle him man on man. Only 3 months!

Since Scott practices by covering CJ...

Well, he should be prepared.

Kenny has his best chance of controlling Smardzija if Tech can bring a consistent and heated pass rush. No offense to Scott, I feel that whoever lines up against Calvin Johnson or Jeff Smardzija have to have a heated and consistent pass rush as their ally.

Somehow, someway Tech has to plan and execute against Brady Quinn and 3 step drops or its going to be a track meet.

One of the safeties will be helping Scott, and an LB underneath - just like a safety will be helping CJ's corner as well.

We will have a full time spy on Smarjian wherever he goes.

Still will be a good match up.

Techfowl: First game of the year, new safties in the lineup, Tech's penchant for safety blitzes, and Brady Quinn.....don't expect Scott to get much help from the inside.

Both Djay and Jamal have game experience. They both played in our nickel and dime packages during the past season.

Maybe so, but our corners are often intentionally....and sometimes unintentionally left outside on their own. A very effective pass rush will be our corners best friend when Tech and the Irish line up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drinking.gif

Remember, ND had 2 very good WRs. Maurice Stovall and Samardzija. Both had alot of yards (both had more yards than CJ). However, I see ND missing Stovall alot. They were 2 big targets; both 6-5. Samard.. will be more on his own this year. I like Scott and our new DBs matchups with them. And ND has mostly a new O Line. ND usually reloads their Oline, but I like our Line matchups too.

I guess thats why our corners are almost always playing soft too, because of the lack of help from the safeties. But you are right on the mark, the pass rush has to be there from the front guys and the blitzing backer to keep the pressure on Quinn. Still I would expect to see a lot of those 5 and out patterns against the soft corner coverage.

I agree completely. One on one, the receiver always has the advantage. I'm just saying since Scott practices against the best, Smardzija will just be more of the same to Kenny.
