that the entire thing falls through.

PJ says no thanks,
Muschamp is out,
Rick too risky,
Hatcher too inexperienced.

So by default they offer the job to Tenuta for like a 3 year deal about what Chan was making.

Are you happy with this?
Does Tenuta stay long knowing he was our last choice?
The LSU DC job will be wide open in Jan.

And then if he leaves we are back to square one.

Any thoughts?

If PJ falls through then I think we really need to snatch Hatcher up.

Not as happy as I could be, but I would be open to giving him a shot if nothing else worked out.

HC at GT is > any DC position I think, regardless of when you were picked in the process. If Tenuta wants to be a HC, he will take his shot. If he hates GT because he was last picked, he will simply use us as a springboard to another HC somewhere else down the line assuming he does well here...

I'd be concerned about the recruiting aspect with Tenuta. I couldn't care less about him being media-friendly, I just want to win. I feel there are only a couple of ways to win at GT:

1) win recruiting, especially in-state. This is primarily how we won in 1990 - talent. We were well on the way with CG and staff. I felt good times were ahead and but for a play here and there we'd still be on the good track. Water under the bridge now.
2) be unconventional. This has worked with tenuta's D. It worked with Ralph's O. It could work with PJ or Hatcher. You don't necessarily need blue-chippers if the scheme is great, see Boise State > OU. See WF > GT last year.

If we kept Tenuta as HC, I would expect to see his defense remain intact, and I would need to see an unconventional offense move in to counteract the potential slip in recruiting.

No, I would not be happy with that situation, and I agree with Techjacket 100%...if PJ doesn't work, get Hatcher NOW. Of course, I wanted Hatcher from the get-go, and would have welcomed WM on board as well. Even PJ does not fit the profile that DRad was after...CH and WM do.

I am a firm believer that nothing great ever comes without taking significant risk, and I'd rather flame out trying for greatness than sitting on a "safer" choice.

SMoney...Hell yes HC @ GT is better than a DC position. GT is a school rich in football tradition that has a lot going for it and certainly can pull out of its current state of mediocrity.

If none of this works out Strong is still available as is Dave Christensen. I would not be opposed to Jeff Bower either.

here is a thought. I am not happy with it b/c we are here due to the fact clough wasn't ballsy enough to tell the donors HE SUPPORTs RAD's first choice and this would have been done 5 days ago.

So in your scenario, we are here b/c Clough is a wimp, we don't get a candidate anyone really wanted, and Dan has now been defacto rendered useless and has been shown his boss is ineffective to supporting him.

So...we don't get WM, Hatch, Edsall or PJ
We alienate an good AD who will probably leave
we get tenuta

for the sake of what? Avoiding a ex-dawg? Are you serious?

I won't be happy if we end up with JT, but if we do I would hope that we can get an OC in who would be able to produce some points for a chang to take some of the pressure off the D. It could work out, although I think we have better options. But at least it won't be the same old same old. The caveat is that most of the existing recruiting and defensive staff stay. I don't care about anyone on the offensive side.

Can I get an Amen from the congregation?
This goes much deeper than Muschamp.

My thoughts are................clusterf*ck. Let me quote DRad at the press conference: "I expect our new head coach to reach out across Atlanta and the State of Georgia with leadership that is aggressive, creative and accessible to the media and fans." Now, I love JT as a Defensive Coordinator. If you are talking about meeting the media friendly part of this equation, then JT is the least likely of any of the candidates to achieve this. Paul Johnson doesn't to like that part of the job either, he's known as being a little abrasive. I think DRad fired CCG with BoomMF in mind, no other candidate besides Neuheisel and perhaps Hatcher even come close to fitting that profile. If they won't approve BoomMF because of where he matriculated, they sure won't approve Neuheisel due to his past run ins with the NCAA. I don't think Hatcher has ever been as serious a candidate as some on the boards would like to believe. Who's left now if PJ turns us down? Somebody tell me where the turd is, because this stinks like sh*t.

JT is equal to or better than WM, the facts are not changing

If we hire Tenuta, let's pay big for an Offensive Coordinator, say Tenuta's salary deal, and get Steve Logan. I think he would like to live in Atlanta and the south. BC will be more of a challenge next year without Ryan. His development of QB's is tremendous, Jeff Blake and David Garrard were developed into NFL QB's, they were not can't miss recruits.

Plus, the guy is very witty. Did an awesome gig on talk radio on Raleigh. He could do some of the PR for Tenuta that many think he would not do well. Giff could be defensive coordinator.
