So what do you guys think of our ACCCG chances now?

I told you guys we still had a shot. VT and Miami are our only competition and they're not that good. UVA will lose more ACC games.

We're still in a good position. We just need to beat VT and Miami (easier said than done).

The coastal division just isn't as good as they envisioned it to be when the league was divided up.

One week at a time, First we have to beat maryland.

It hasn't changed...we still need to win out, and we need everyone else in the division to suffer 2 losses (and UVA to suffer 3).

Our odds are still long, but hey, Wake won their division at 6-2 last year - but they started from a position of strength and not in an 0-2 hole. We'll see what happens.

Not dead, not good, but it wouldn't be the weirdest thing that ever happened. It starts against Maryland Saturday. The team has to show that our letdowns for the year are over.

Maryland is every bit as good as VT and Miami, and any one of those is every bit as good as us, except none of them as 2 conference losses already.

I do not think our chances to make the ACCCG will improve significantly unless all three of those teams start to accrue losses.

Oh, and we may have to put UNC in that mix too, they almost beat VT yesterday. VT got a luck fumble recovery in their own endzone for a touchback, and some other nefarious bounces of the ball, in that win.

To be quite honest, I would be mildly shocked if we went 2-0 in our next two games. :wow:

Either that or we may have to take VT out of the mix...time will tell, but VT has done nothing impressive this year. Of course, I'm with everyone else...my viewpoint of our chances didn't change because no one we needed to lose lost.

As a fan I concern myself with the season one game at a time.

ACC Coastal:
UVA ....3-0 (4-1)
VT ......1-0 (4-1)
Miami ..1-0 (4-1)
GT ......1-2 (3-2)

10/6:
UVA..... @M Tenn St
VT...... @Clemson
Miami... @UNC
GT....... @MD

This week:
*I could care less about UVA
*I hope the Clemson offense rebounds from being stifled by GT and takes care of VT at home
*I hope UNC takes their effort against VT into their next game and comes up with a win at home against Miami
*I hope GT is focused and ready to play right out of the gate on the road at Maryland

If this happens then you're looking at:
UVA ....3-0
VT ......1-1
Miami ..1-1
GT.......2-2

Then GT will be in a position to take care of VT and Miami without needing help from another team. Again, the next game (for both GT and their Coastal foes) is all that I care to be concerned with.

The good thing about the Maryland game is their QB is awful. They will not beat us running the ball, the QB has to make plays, problem is he wont have time to. As long as we pressure him I think we win this game.

We could be very good if we take care of somethings:
  1. Dumb penalties such as false starts, holding (when it is unnecessary), pass interference (when it is unnecessary), etc.
  2. Wrapping up on our tackling, which appeared to improve a lot against Clemson.
  3. Center/QB sync.
  4. Turnovers
  5. Lots and lots and lots of work by our receivers.
  6. Injuries, especially to our bread-and-butter player and leader, TC.
I thought our blocking against Clemson was OK. Special teams were exceptional, nay, incredible. QB has a way to go, but we have several horses in the stable who may just need more experience. We were very fortunate that Clemson's kicker, who I understand is very good, missed all those field goals. It also helped that Clemson was guilty of pass interference in the end zone when it may not have been necessary. I'd rather be lucky than good.

So if we continue to improve as much as we did week-to-week from UVA to Clemson, yeah, we can hand out some losses and win our division. But it is definitely a GREAT BIG IF.

The backup looked pretty good last night demjacket.

Agree but, new quarterback against this D isnt good. Cullen saw his first test yesterday, he was completing over 65%. New QB's who never faced this D dont do very well.

I agree but if anyone can simplify the reads and how to attack them it's Fridge. Hopefully the kid still won't be able to handle it.

I watched UNC vs. VT yesterday. UNC could have/should have won that easily. They made several crucial errors that took sure points off their board and put points on VT's side. We have nothing to fear playing VT this year.

I think UVa losing 3 in conference is a long shot.

Our chances are scarcely better than they were before, and our offense actually got worse.

We don't need UVa to lose 3, but it makes the math simpler.

It was a fine win, though, and I won't begrudge anyone who wants to be optimistic.

Well yeah, but the chances of all of that happening are slim at best. Shoot, we're only 50/50 vs Maryland, and you're hoping UNC wins? Sheesh.

1-3 start kills Tech's ACC aspirations

http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/gatech/stories/2007/10/07/techfoot_1008.html

A team that began the year expecting to return to the ACC championship game now can't get back unless:
• Tech wins its final four ACC games;
• Virginia loses at least three of its final five ACC games;
• Virginia Tech loses to at least two ACC opponents other than Georgia Tech;
• Miami loses to at least one ACC opponent other than Georgia Tech, and
• At least one other thing breaks Georgia Tech's way.
In other words, the Jackets shouldn't expect to spend Dec. 1 in Jacksonville

Mathematical impossibility.

It would take a full-on miracle granted from God.
