...if Chan gets replaced, by the Fellowship of the Miserable crowd? Any?

I see a lot of "time for tech fans to come together" around here, and other places, but will they? Or will they take Chan's departure as as sign of victory, that somehow their asinine behavior was warranted, or even beneficial in some way? The next time someone calls a play that didn't work in hindsight, or the next time we false start, or the next time another team makes more plays than we do, do they go right back to registering domain names for FIRETHENEWGUY.com?

Everyone's not going to like the next guy so I see either a new website going up and TFOTM will head to BO.

Reggie Ball all by himself and CG's inability to ever develop a D1 quarterback to get the ball to Calvin was his undoing.

If the new guy can't get something equally as important done in a similarly glaring way, he will deserve and get the same treatment.

After one year, no. After 2 years no. After 3 years, no. After 4, we'll see. After 5, either here or on way out. After 6, gravy in this day and age- if the coach is that good, we'll be good and he'll be gone to a higher DIV 1 or Pro job- Id take that in a heart beat. Right now, we dont have a heart beat...and Rad knows it.

I dont think the fellowship will ever be able to live it down. They will have nothing to talk about because they are so used to complaining. They will continue to bring up Chan, Reggie, Nix, etc. They will come to this board and the hive to brag about how they were right and we should have listened sooner. Any honeymoon period with a new coach will be shortlived, because they will find something to complain about.

It's one thing to dislike the coach. It's one thing to point out his faults. It's one thing to wish for a change. It's one thing to call for it openly as often as you can. But as their name implies, I believe a majority of these people truly are miserable. A new coach won't change that.

Untrue. Every football game has stuff happen in it you can complain about. Fumble! Fire the coach! False Start! Fire the coach! We lost a game! Fire the coach!

There is no win-win scenario in football. Someone has to lose, and it can't possibly always be the other guy. So what are the Cindy Sheehans of Football going to do when Chan's gone?

Acknowledge that their Cindy-Sheehan-esque handwaving freakoutery was childish and turn over a new leaf? Or delude themselves into thinking that their venom was somehow a benefit to Tech sports?

I think the issue is that fans that are complaining are talking outwardly about our issues....bad issues.

Frankly, with chan its not unjust; and therefore its hard to claim they are miserable.

I mean, if Chan was pete carroll...then yes..I would agree they are just miserable fans, but he isn't, he is chan

he is mediocre, 0-5, and the team never seems to improve or have a pulse. I don't think it makes you miserable to state that and want a change.

If the new coach shows improvement in the areas chan hasn't, then I think most of the your so called "miserable" fans do quiet up. I for one don't want chan back, have publicly stated that, but I am not a miserable fan. I complain when I see just cause. I gave the guy 5 years to do well, and last year the ND game pushed me away and the UGA/Wake game finalized it for me. Enough was Enough.

What I think will happen, is the fans who love chan, b/c he is a nice man and a christian, when he gets fired and replaced, and the new guy doesn't have a decent first year b/c we lose so much going into next year....the FOCers will become the miserable fans and be the "see I told you so" fans. The tables will turn.

You are probably right. I got the feeling after UNC lost the game saturday after totally outplaying us with freshmen and redshirts that we are stuck and that it is ridiculous to believe that we have a chance over the next few years of winning more than 6-7 games. I have realized after watching the chinese fire-drill at the end of that game saturday to not expect great offense, 2-minute comebacks like the Clemson game with Watkins catch and to accept Gailey for what he is- a middle of the road NFLer. By the way, Nesbitt should be starting the UGA game-he gives us the best chance to make big plays

Again I say---Chan did not have to rebuild after O'Leary. Many new coaches inherit programs in the depths of adversity and strife. Chan did not. Was Tech on top of the world at that time? Certainly not, but two things should have been a signal to all of us at the time he took the job. (a) He stayed at the Dolphins and didn't jump in with both feet to become the Head Coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.--I blame Braine. (b) he kept Bill O'Brien as OC--not that O'Brien was bad, but it was a hint that Gailey could not attract a coordinator--because he procrastinated at starting his new job at Tech, but also because Gailey knew that he was going to be his own coordinator anyway.
Hindsight is 20/20.

I am not going to contest your feeling, and not going to argue that Chan is the best guy for Tech sports. As has been said before, it will hinge on this year's performance vs UGA. If we win 8, maybe 9, 2 years in a row, with recruiting on an upswing / etc, Chan earns the right to stay and there's no arguing that. But honestly, Chan's not dumb, and if I were him I'd be looking for another more stable job anyway, given the situation he's in. (like the Southern Methodist rumor, or something equivalent)

But that's not what the thread's about. The thread is about whether Buzzoff puts a big "WE CLAIM VICTORY! OUR CHILDISH BEHAVIOR IS GOOD FOR TECH SPORTS!" sign on their main page the day Chan leaves.

if you are asking that...yes they probably will.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I would take exception to being labelled Sheehan-esque, however. That little barb seems to have it's own modicum of venom. I know that you are aware that college athletics, eckspecially southern college football has it's unique brand of emotion. That you can rise above it is admirable, but I resent the wholesale lumping of those who are passionate about their team and their team's present predicament, in with a mentally deranged, and politically traitorous individual. Maybe your comments are intentional to drive board traffic. It's working.

I'm 100% behind the replacement. He'll get at least 2 seasons of unquestionable total support from me before I start taking a hard look at where we're headed in season 3.

I've been calling for Chan's head for the last four seasons because it just never looked TO ME like we were going anywhere with the guy. I am an individual and to each his own. We all judge things differently. That's why a lot of times in competition there is a "panel of judges", because everyone has an opinion but that one person's opinion can't always be the final verdict. You pro-Chan guys need us anti-Chan guys to point out the glaringly obvious shortcomings and blunders under the coach, just like we need your gold-colored glasses and kool-aid drinking. It balances us out and give us one voice. Right now, the one voice of the Ga Tech fanbase is saying "Chan, you did a couple good things here, but it's time for us to figure out if we can get out of this contract with you".

Some of the most die-hard Gailey supporters through the years have now started saying he needs to go (except doogie22, he has no balls). Are they miserable?

If being anti-gailey makes me "miserable" in your eyes, that's fine. But I assure you, I lead a very fulfilling and happy life. And I enjoy gamedays, too.

I want you to know, that even though we may not all be in agreement on Chan, and even though the "miserable" are pretty much proven to be right about Gailey at this point...You aren't going to see me walking around rubbing it in your FOCing faces. I wouldn't do that.

This is stupid Beej, we don't replace anyone and won't. DRad does, and if he does replace him, you better damn well know its because he deserved it. When the majority of former letter winners and big donors of your school are fed-up with Gailey, you're going to have a hard time selling him next year unless its to the "I don't understand coaching, but I support the current coach regardless crowd".

Either you misunderstood, or I phrased poorly. Allow me to restate, and maybe we can synch up here.

I never said FOTMers were responsible for Chan's release (should we lose to georgia). They're clearly not. What I asked was would they claim responsibility? And furthermore, will they still behave like asshats in the future thinking that their asshattery is somehow helpful?

beej67,
hopes that's clearer

"asshattery". That is truely an awesome adjective. Kudos. This is my new favorite word. I will now use the word asshatery in all of my posts.
