So, without picking apart the ND game again...

what do you folks think the rest of the season holds for us? Last week, most on here seemed to be predicting a big win over Notre Dame. Was that based on something you saw in preseason practice, or was that just blind optimism? Do we have enough, both talent and coaching-wise, to push for a top bowl game and maybe a division championship?

I said in another post, "if we win in Blacksburg we will go to Jacksonville". I think VT is the pivotal point in our season. Clemson would be next. Tough schedule to run.

We have the coaching for 7-8 wins and a crappy bowl. Same new year.

A big no and no.

But based on the recent uptick in recruiting (and assuming these recruits don't have second thoughts after watching CCG with great interest this year) things do look positive for the future. But getting there is what will be the painful part. Gailey just aint got it.

I am not going to look too far ahead (to the VT game) just yet. Samford and Troy should of course be two wins, I am expecting both games to be over by the half.

Then I will focus on VA before thinking about VT. After putting together 3 straight victories last year, GT was knocked off by VA 27-17. Also, I remember my frustrations leaving BDS after last year's Thursday night debacle (NC State).

That's as far ahead as I care to look right now, reaching 3-1.

We have the defense for 5-7 wins. Terrific defense!

The scrimmage results had already dissed my enthusiasm for the 'new offense'.

But the special team's performance was shockingly famaliar.

I predict a win every weekend, that will never change. However, I stated at the beginning of the year that we would go 7-5. Until we have better production from the QB spot, it just isn't going to happen. I think this year and next won't be much different than the last 4. When we get a new QB who has been in the system playing for at least 2 years, we can begin to improve upon our record.

If we are tired of seven wins and already have trips to Blacksburg, Athens, and Clemson and a home game with Miami on the chedule, we might want to rethink starting with the #2 team in the country.

We are now scheduling ourselves to play 5 pre-season top twenty-fives. I think 3 or 4 on our schedule will be top ten or twelve end of the year (UGA, ND, and one ACC foe).

I don't mind opening up with Notre Dame. What I am not particularly fond of is following up that big game with, not one, but two games against the likes of Samford and Troy, then having to pick up the pace again for the meat of the conference schedule.

With a 12 game schedule, and counting the eight conference games, and UGA, that leaves three games. I like playing the likes of Notre Dame and Auburn for one of those games (maybe a Tennessee, Alabama or LSU in the future). For the remaining two games, sure, throw in a guaranteed win game and then for the remaining game, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Navy, middle of the pack Big 10 or Pac 10 school, something along those lines.

The game against ND looked and felt exactly like the ga game last year. Nothing has changed except Calvin got the ball more.

Last year Calvin scored the first TD of the game. Then the wheels fell off. ga played no mistake football and our D wore down in the second half due to no production by the offense.

I get some optimism from the fact that we lost the big-time opener this time. In the last few years, we have won the big-time opener, but then settled into a depressing pattern. Losing a game we shouldn't, losing to ga.

RB era:

2003: Beat Auburn, Lose to Duke, ga
2004: Beat Clemson @ Death Valley, Lose to UNC, ga
2005: Beat Auburn, lose to ga, utah

So, perhaps this will break us out of a disappointing pattern. Don't get me wrong, I thought last year was a positive year. However, although we beat Miami, we got blown out by VT, didn't show up against UVA, and lost to NC State.

Oh I wish, I wish, Chan would watch take some cues from Steve Spurrier & Bobby Bowden. You play your game and you don't let up. If the score runs up to 45-10 against a lesser opponent, so mote it be. That's college football. ga beat WKU the other day 42-something. I am admittedly jealous about this. I think we might score 42 points combined against Samford and Troy. I think this is a biiiiiiig problem.

Good grief, we play Samford, Troy, Duke, Wake, and a down UNC team and we think our schedule is a challenge to win 7 !?!?

We don't play Wake this year, I think you are getting
Wake confused with Maryland who we do play this year and who we should indeed beat (lets not think about the Maryland game in 2001). I do agree with you, I think we will break our 7 win curse this year contrary to an all too popular belief on this board following our good showing against ND Saturday night.

BOR, I respect your posts on here, but this time you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. If you predict a win every weekend, then that means your prediction is 12-0, not 7-5. Don't you mean to say you HOPE for a win every weekend?

Expecting GT to lose because we are up against superior talent or coaching does not mean not supporting the team. It just means being realistic.

That's what puzzled me about all of the talk on here before this past weekend. It seemed that almost everyone 'predicted' a win over ND, but now many if not most of the same people are saying we don't have the coaching, or the QB play, or the special teams play, or something else we need, to win consistently.

I look forward to the time when we can truly EXPECT to win every weekend, not only because we want to, but because our team has the talent and coaching to kick butt every time they step on the field, from the opening kickoff to the final tick of the clock.

IF we have zero injuries from here on out, and we start playing to win on offense, then we will go 9-3.

IF we have two injuries at safety and linebacker, then we will go 7-5.

If I was a betting man, I'd guess 8-4 with wins over Samford, Troy, UVA, MD, Duke, UNC, and Miami and VPI.

I do not believe that our offense is capable of beating UGA or Clemson, just like I didn't think it was capable of beating ND. Next year though.
