Some things that bother me now about the football

program.

Disclaimer: I don't analyze things too much, I don't second guess the coaches or DB too much, and I probably drink too much whiskey because of such things too!

However I am worried about some things:

1)Recruiting. I know it is not over and we could land some big recruits. I din't think that allowing Chan to finish his stint at Miami would hurt us too much last year or this year. It still may not, but he has me VERY nervous right now.

2)Being realistic, there really is nothing in Chan's resume that says he has a clue about being a college head coach in D-1. However, there is nothing in my resume that says I could do it too!

3)We have seen a LOT of QB's come and go through here lately. Too many have transferred and too many are never to be "heard from" again. I know why you recruit QBs. They are the best athletes typically and can be converted. However, our converted QBs aren't exactly making the 2 deep in other positions. Having lost all these QBs, is the current staff telling us that the best we have is the person who has been starting? If that is what they believe, then fine. I support them. Then I have to ask what happened to all the other QBs we recruited.

It doesn't matter which side you stand on. Either O'Leary's staff didn't evaluate the talent our recruits at the QB postion properly, or the new staff hasn't evaluated it properly. A lot of BIG recruits are not being heard from, and none will never be heard from because they left.

4)Stadium expansion and moving to the SEC. Until we can prove we can win the ACC, and fill our current stadium then we have no business talking about either.

Coupla comments on yours -

However Chan is very well qualified - compare his experience to other successful head coaches outta the pro ranks and you'll see there was reason to be optimistic about his abilities.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">This happens in many programs, most noteably of late UGag - they had 3 QBs to leave when Quitsy came in, and now it's rumoured Shockley's gonna transfer. You bring in the best you can to force competition and the ones that come up short, but feel they can contribute, will go elsewhere. This also is illustrative of the uncertainty of recruiting.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">We desparately needed to renovate/expand the venerable old Bobby Dodd to make it more attractive and impressive for top quality recruits. Shows a committment to the program overall. Kinda a cart before horse - you don't fill the seats unless you win, you don't win unless you git the recruits, you don't git the recruits unless you improve the facilities....

Talk of joining the SEC is just silly at this point. That will never happen unless there is MAJOR realignment amoung several conferences. That's possible in a few years after the BCS contract expires, but I really don't expect it to happen.
