Just a little icing on the cake to our landing Peeples yesterday... :p

RB Ward's UGA commitment in question
There is speculation that Martin Ward has decommitted from Georgia, however, his former high school coach Bob Ryan (recently retired) told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that as far as he knows, "Martin is going to honor his commitment to Georgia."

Ward has expressed interest in Florida and according to Ryan, "I don't think my replacement (at Mount Zion) wants him to go to Georgia. He's a Florida guy." Ryan's replacement is Jarrett Lewis, the former offensive coordinator who's from the Tampa, Fla. area.

Additionally, some believe that OG B.J. Brand has dropped his commitment to the Bulldogs and re-entered the recruiting process as well.

Also, I read that Paul Oliver, the UGA Corner, may be academically ineligible for the season. I hate it for the young man if it is true, but I can’t say that I hate it for UGA.

Georgia waiting on Oliver's status
By Marc Weiszer | Staff Writer | Story updated at 11:18 PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Georgia senior cornerback Paul Oliver could be in danger of being academically ineligible to play this season. Oliver missed several spring practices and a scrimmage for academic reasons. Coach Mark Richt addressed rumors about Oliver's status Tuesday night while in Savannah on Georgia's "Dawg Days" tour. "The grades, they've not been reported yet, so we've got to wait on that," Richt said. Oliver has showed up on some lists of top 10 NFL Draft prospects for 2008 after bypassing the draft after his junior season. He started every game in 2006 and had three interceptions. Oliver limited Georgia Tech All-American Calvin Johnson to two catches and 13 yards in a Georgia win on Nov. 25. Losing Oliver would be a major blow to a team that returns only three other defensive starters. Oliver could apply to enter the NFL's supplemental draft this summer if he can't play at Georgia.

Academically ineligible at UGA? That's some good stuff there. I understand there are some legit degrees at UGA, but rarely do you see a football player working towards one.

Then again, Richt stated grades haven't come out yet, so I'm betting this will all clear itself up pretty quickly.

Yes, there ARE very good degree programs in The Classic City....and several of their players DO go through them.

However, Oliver isn't one of them. He was in one of the "high school redux" majors. Apparently, though, it didn't matter. He's done.

Sounded like he wasn't that far from graduating, too. Really hope he ends up finishing the degree, for whatever its worth. As close as he was, it really would be a shame to not finish. It might not be much as far as degrees go, but it's still a degree from a major university with a decent academic rep. He shouldn't let that op slip away.

Good luck to him.

AJC reported that he is entering the supplemental draft. No school finish for him, even though he did not have to leave UGA. Oliver was on the fence about entering the real draft apparently - hindsight is 20/20, because it looks like maybe he should have...
