the morale of last years team went down the tubes. You would think if it was Gailey's leadership, the team would never have performed like it did against UVA and NCST. I remember in those games a very gutsy performance, especially by our "D" and the offense wasn't half bad either. Heck, we still had a chance for a decent bowl. So what happened in those few weeks after some good wins. Did the FSU loss completely crush our teams' spirit? Was there some internal problems that occurred late in the season? If you surveyed the players, I wonder what they would say led to the team giving up in those last two games?

Just to get the ball rollin, I think some of the so called team leaders either gave up, started pointing fingers, or bickering. I believe some dessension started when Suggs had those two HUGE interceptions against FSU. If I'm not mistaken, we dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in that game.

we had a crushing loss at maryland where we moved the ball plenty and gained plenty of offensive yards but it didn't show on the score board. much like getting plenty of hits in a baseball game but leaving runners stranded.

however, we came back strong after that loss and won the ncst and uva games.

we then took on one of the weakest looking fsu teams in the recent past and totally dominated that game but for key interceptions thrown by our starting QB.

that loss was probably crippling to the morale. i don't have any inside info. but clearly the QB position was really shaky.

in the next game vs duke, we were told that our starting QB was ill but he still started. however, we totally changed our philosophy and played that game very very conservatively. thankfully it was just duke and the only points they managed to score was when we lined up fred smith as QB and the center mangled the snap and the ball sailed over fred's head into our own endzone for a safety.

then came the ga game and we quit. our QB problems were in the forefront again when we managed to throw 5 interceptions in the fresno state bowl loss.

over all this, we have lost key contributors to academics but it is a new season. bilbo is our starter for now but gailey has stated that if a freshman can show he's better, the job is his. our quarterback coach from last year is gone. true frosh are excited as most will get an opportunity to play straight away.

sorry for the rambling, i believe that what went wrong in the last two games in the morale department is in the past.

our quarterback coach from last year is gone.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Though that statement is certainly true, it needs to be noted that this year's Running Game Coordinator / QB Coach was on staff last year.

Although I'm certainly not a FOCer, I do applaud this move and think that Nix can do a great job with whatever role he's assigned. He struck me as a very knowledgeable person at signing day and also a coach that 19-23 year olds would certainly want to play for. For that matter, many of the assistants fit this mold.

I hope that CG give's him the freedom to speak about his position and grant interviews to the media. For some reason, I thought I'd heard once that our head coach wants all questions going through him alone, and that is certainly his perrogative. However, you'd have to admit that it'd be refreshing to hear from our defensive coordinator the same way FSU's Mickey Andrews and UGA's Van Gorder gets press time in Tallahassee and Athens respectively.

yeah, our current running game co-ordinator/QB coach was in our staff last year.

last year was his first year as a div 1 coach. his responsiblity last year was to coach the running backs.

we had a darned good running game last year considering the following:

we lost our best RB from 2001 to academics
we lost our second best RB from 2001 to graduation
we lost our 3rd best RB from 2001 to concussions

we converted a backup DB to become the leading rusher in div 1 till a season ending injury

we then brought in a true frosh who did very well till he got dinged up

we then relied on another freshman to take up the role of RB

moreover, we got excellent production from a walk on who is now on scholarship

over all this, we finally saw production from a perennial bench warmer under the ex-coache's regime who finally got off his ass in his 5th year at TECH to do great things at RB till he endured a season ending injury

so you're right, our current QB coach was in our staff last year in the capacity of the RB coach and did great!

our ex QB coach who never played a down as QB or even on the offense is gone to take more lessons.

i'm excited about this change.

It's pretty obvious what happened after the FSU loss, agame we did indeed totally dominate, only to have the QB give it away. Our players, not being stupid, came to the conclusion that the HC was an idiot for continuing to play him exclusively. Hence the decline in team morale.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">yeah, i'm sure nat dorsey, damarious bilbo, jonathon smith, greg gathers, john paul foschi and the rest of the team thinks that our HC is an idiot.

furthermore, the new freshmen class including wrotto, newberry, grant, scott, oliver, moore, pupello, anoia also must be thinking what the hell made them commit to an idiot

over that, our recruits for the '04 season must be wondering what the hell they were thinking.

hey ramsting, why don't you make your way down to BDS on the 2nd of august and ask some of our players what they think of the HC.

the only idiot here is the person that i have quoted in this post.

Ramsting, is that your handle: Just follow Ylo's advice. Hey, buddy, get in the mix or talk as from afar (which you do) but acknowlege that you speak as an outsider, far removed from the real blocking, tackling, and coaching....you outsiders have done more detriment to the program than shit does to a Sunday picnic. Just because you have not had your way, do not try to spoil it for TRUE
Tech supporters: GEt in, or get out, or get run over, but quit being a sour puss!!!!!!!!

Hey YLO, if I called Mike Tyson an idiot on this board, would I then have to go kick his ass to justify my statement.

I am in no shape to fight Tyson. Does that mean he is not an idiot?

I don't believe that Chan Gailey is an idiot. I actually think he is a very bright man with a ton of resolve and the pride to clear his name and to make a name at Tech.

I have just seen this "don't say a word unless you can whip the ass of a 20 year old lineman" too much for my taste.

Should we be in fear of our opinions?

I will continue to bash Dave Braine. I can handle him.

The QB coach from last year has nothing to to do with it. Our HC had the ultimate power and he kept going with AJ at the helm and it cost us dearly. His call, his team,......the 51-7 and Fresno Fiasco laid at his feet,..hence a very bitter and ugly campaign to mark CG's first season. He did speak at to many church groups in the off season,......so we've got that going for us.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">The position coach has a lot to do with it. To say that any coach has nothing to do with performance is not true.

Every coach and every player makes up a team. One functions with the other. The head coach, the position coach, and the players at every position are the ones that make up a TEAM!

Driver, you might not like this, but then again you may not care. You're bitter. What does that accomplish?

Go Jackets!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">excuse me LLCoolJ, but i didn't tell mr rammsting to go and take on linemen. i don't care if you're in the best shape of your life or if you can or can't take on mike tyson or dave braine.

my point was that that idiot who calls himself rammsting has no clue as to what opinion our student athletes have of our head coach.

i was merely suggesting that he come down for fan photo day and pose the question to the student athletes themselves.

is that a fair suggestion? i'd love to see a post made by the idiot who calls himself rammsting after he's talked to a few student athletes and gathered their opinion about our HC first hand rather than forcing an opinion on their behalf.

is that fair?

mr llcoolj, you're not only in no physical shape to take on anybody, nor are you in any decent "mental" shape. no brawns or brains. you missed the point of my post completely.

you have an opinion? state it fearlessly. i too form opinion and state them fearlessly. y'all state opinions about the coaching staff, i state opinions about y'all.

all i am asking the idiot who calls himself rammsting is to *NOT* fabricate an opinion for others. don't state that our student athletes have an opinion about our head coach without having a clue as to what it is. don't pass off your opinion for others.

if you must, find out first hand like coming down on fan photo day and asking a student athlete, say greg gathers, what he thought about our HC and then making a post that greg gathers opinion about our HC was such and such.

do you get it now LLCoolJ? god .. no don't fear, post your opinions dude and i'll do the same.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">He kept going with AJ at the helm because AJ was the only QB we had who knew more than 20% of the playbook. Why do you refuse to see the obvious?? Bilbo didn't know jack shit last year as far as the playbook was concerned. Now, his development lays straight at his own feet and Chan's I suppose, but staying with AJ was about the only damn option Gailey had.

Do you feel secure in your knowledge that Gailey is a "cancer" to GT football based on a sample size of 3 games? If you do, you could get a job as a consultant for any Div 1 team or NFL team who's looking for a coach. You obviously know what it takes and how to pick em.

YLO, you do not know what kind of physical shape I am in. Its not good enough for Iron Mike, but I am still moving.

You are more and more taking on the "chat board mad man persona". Thats fine, but we still have real problems with the subject of this discussion. The condition of Tech football is not fine, but you want no one to talk about it.

It will be fine, but it will take work like it always has when a wheel or 2 has fallen off.

You are admittedly a new fan (great). Be a good mudblood, know what the hell you are talking about.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">wrong again .. wrong again. i don't know what shape you're in and i don't want to know cause i don't care.

talk about tech football, call whoever you want to call an idiot or a cancer or whatever you please. it's not in good shape i agree. talking about it here won't change that.

just know that those are your opinions and it's your right to state them here. in the same breadth, i too can form such extreme opinions about you and anyone i choose and state them here.

what i don't think is right is the fact that some idiot forces his opinions on student athletes when he knows jack shit.

you jumped into the fray. why? i don't know. i didn't suggest that the idiot go take on linemen. you wrongly assumed that i did. i told him to first go gauge the opinion of our student athletes regarding our HC and then make a post on that subject instead of forcing his opinion onto them.

i *am* being a good mudblood and i sure as hell know what i'm talking about.

if you can't take it .. get freaking lost. if you can take it .. good for you.

We are gonna kick Merrylands ass this year on Thursday night for all of the world to see. Payback will be hell. Will do wonders for recruiting and morale.
