Special Teams schadenfreude

A major case of the yips or did the snapper have money riding on Montana State? Those first couple were high AND outside.

Shades of Gooff Collins clown show.
Better go for it on 4th for now on.

I was at the game. Freaking craziest things happening I ever saw. Also 2 kicks returned for touchdowns. Weaver state was up by something like 14 in the 1st half with 56 yards of offense. MSU makes comeback off all this trash. It was raining terribly but entertaining as hell especially thanks to the liquor.

Safetying yourself 4 times still probably better than having 2 blocked punts returned for TDs
Looks like Montana State scored a touchdown on each of the drives immediately after the safeties, but only one other time. So, they were basically 9-point safeties. for 36 points. Four blocked punts for TDs would have been 28 points. An 8-point delta in a game they lost by 5. Only two blocked punts and they would have routed them.

Great comment tho.

I'm trying to put myself into the shoes of the snapper and consider his thought process. I just can't imagine having wildly oversnapped multiple punts already and still not being able to recalibrate enough that the next one isn't at least playable. If anything, I think I'd be prone to overcorrect and the snap might be a little short... and I suppose it's possible he was so concerned about overcorrecting on it that he ended up unwittingly continuing to put way too much on it.

And as already pointed out, I also can't imagine being the coach who continues to trot that guy out there or the punter who continues to line up as if he doesn't know good and well the ball is going to soar over his head.

They still would have had to play defense if they got the punt off. Each safety didn’t net 9 points, or 36 total.

But, yes. If you don’t play defense or cover the kick on the punt, which they didn’t, a blocked punt TD can be more optimal than a safety. In most cases, teams would prefer to get safetied and play D as opposed to allowing a TD.

You've never had the yips?
