Good thing we have speedy guys on offense. They need it to evade all of the defensive players slipping past the OL.

Probably 50% of skill players claim 4.4 speed on their high school recruiting profiles, yet only 7 of the best players actually had sub 4.4 speed when laser timed at the combine (after 3-4 years of additional training). Pulling our players' claimed high school 40 times is pretty worthless.

Not that we dont have some fast players, but comparing their rivals pages to NFL combine times is pretty silly.

JT 4.2 (as in 4.20??), no. He's quick, but not blazing top speed. Probably high 4.3's.

Xavier Gantt 4.28...current high-schooler with a top 5
NFL combine 40 time?? ha no.

Cottrell's was likely laser timed by Sparx, so i believe that. It was also like top 5 in the country. Watch him run and he hits top speed faster than 99.999% of players you'll ever see. No one on our team is likely faster in the 40 than his laser timed 4.35.

A lot of those "4.4" times are more like 4.45-4.49 hand timed (by generous coaches), which means they are probably closer to 4.50-4.55 laser timed.

And while a fast 40 time usually means you are fast on the field, a "bad" 40 time doesnt necessarily mean you are slow on the field. A lot of 4.5-6 guys can keep up with 4.4 guys on the field.

Hopefully everyone is healthy this year and we can see how all of those high school times translate to the field.

This and then some. Show me a decent OL and I'll get more excited than 40 times.

öööö, show me an OL that can block the guys in front of them. I'll take that at this point.

I would like to see their time running in pads. Still impressive though

While those times are not accurate, the reality is that we probably have more speed at the skill positions than we have since at least the O'Leary years. While Rivals 40 times are not trustworthy, 100m dash times from elite track guys like Thomas, Cottrell, Benson, and Philpott are. If you watch the high school film from those guys, it's pretty obvious that they can fly.

can anybody block too?

can anybody block too?

Exactly. It doesn't matter how fast we are if our lineman are all training to be future Matadors. Spain should literally be conducting a search for talented Matadors on GTs campus. We may not have any future #1 draft picks in the NFL, but dammit, we will be a powerhouse in Spain as I guarantee there will be a lot of GT bloodlines in future bullfighting leagues.

OLAY!
