Spinich interviews Roddy.....

RJ: It is, and we had some chances for it in the Miami game, we just didn’t get the blocks on the perimeter a couple of times. But I think we’ve seen that teams are trying to take Dwyer out of the game, and in order to get him back involved, we’ve got to start hitting stuff on the perimeter.

I feel like I've been saying these two things all year so far. To open up the dive for Dwyer we don't need to pass, we need to establish an outside run game. That hasn't worked because of our crappy A-Back/WR (perimeter) blocking. Not the O-Line. Not that Nesbitt can't pass and it's killing us.

It all comes down to the blocking on the outside to open up our offense.

It's a valid point. I think in this offense, the pitch to the run game up the middle is to what the pass to balance in the run game to other offenses is.

I really think that is what shakes it up.

Just a minor point, but maybe significant--we got no quarterback.

the fuse on this thread has been lit

I'm bringing the gasoline to the party . . .

I think a lot of people have a problem with Nesbitt, because he looks a little thuggish and love Jaybo, because he looks like the kid from your bible study that bags your grocery at Publix.

There I said it.

WHAT!

That was borderline r-a-c-i-s-t...

I hope that was a joke...

Jaybo also goes down as fast as the kid from my bible study that bags groceries at publix.

Out of all the questionable things I've seen you post, this may be one of the worst.

If you MEANT to say "We got no quarterback that can throw", then maybe you have a semi valid point. Good thing we don't need a quarterback that can throw like goose.

We have a very ideal QB for our offense.

My thoughts on QB:

Jaybo could handle the Wakes, Dukes, Miss Sts, Jax Sts, etc on our schedule.

He would be killed against Clemson, Miami, UNC, VT, FSU, and UGA.

I said what I meant to say. In response to Roddy's comments that when our opponent sells out to take away the dive, we have to counterpunch with something on the perimeter--or a pass. Right now we do not have a quarterback that can do either of those things. Josh is a talented tough kid, but he is not getting it done right now. Unless and until he elevates his game--AND we get some blocking--we are going to struggle offensively. Until now a lot of us assumed Jon Dwyer, and Roddy, and Allen were so talented and so gifted that they would make yards even when the execution was not there. Now we are getting a glimpse that in certain situations, those guys can be neutralized. When they are taken away, there has to be an alternative way to move the football. Right now we don't have that. Ideal qb or not, we need improved qb play. I admit Josh is our best at the position, but just like Jevan Snead showed last night, when your quarterback is having a rough time, the team is going to have a difficult time winning.

Nesbitt is a good option QB. He has little blocking in the A-gaps due to splits and an apparently long learning curve for our OL. This means that Dwyer gets hit about 40% of the time behind the LOS, and Nesbitt has no time to set to pass when the DT and DE are both closing in.

He is learning an offense he never played before last year, and still misses some reads occasionally. He is the guy that carries our offense. W/o him, we wouldn't have won 6 games last year.

We need to lay off Nesbitt. He is nothing but class and heart. No telling how much Advil he has to swallow every Saturday night.

Are you implying that it's Josh's fault that AA is the biggest matador known to college football? Josh is not making a lot of bad reads on the option play outside. Blocking is the only problem on the outside runs.

His passing is lacking, but fixing our blocking on the outside will eliminate the 'need' to pass. If we can run it inside and outside then that's all we need to have a very effective offense. The occasional pass after that will only add to the devastation that our offense can wreak when they are rolling.

Ideal? I think not. Josh isn't quick enough. We need someone like Tracy Ham or Joe Hamilton. Neither were fast but were quick and made smart decisions. Not to mention both could throw the ball.

I didn't say perfect.

I said ideal.

If you told me that we'd have a QB that could run the option effectively, take big hits all game and run for almost 700 yards in his first year running the offense, I would have said 'yes please, thank you'.

Ideal is comparative...as in Nesbitt is much more ideal to our offense than Taylor Bennett would have been.

Not to split hairs, but I'm pretty sure that ideal and perfect essentially mean the same thing.
