[ QUOTE ]
The situation with Reggie is reminds me of the one with the Auburn quarterback (Jason Campbell?) of a couple of years ago who seemingly had limitless potential that went largely untapped until Tuberville changed offensive coordinators and lo and behold his senior year the light came on and it was like night and day. Perhaps, Reggie will have a similar road to Damascus revelation and become the player he has shown tantalizing flashes of becoming these last few years. Personally, I am skeptical but it could happen.

[/ QUOTE ]Auburn changed offensive coordinators every year that Jason Campbell was on campus - 5 years, 5 different OCs. Why was the last change the one that worked? Lo and behold, the light came on and fell into place the year that he was a RS-SR with Caddy and Ronnie Brown in the backfield, a strong, healthy, and experienced OL & a talented but young group of receivers. It was a perfect storm for Al Borges - he wasn't extremely successful in his long career before Auburn's 04 season. And he really didn't live up to expectations last year - remember all of the Auburn fans saying that their offense wouldn't skip a beat?

It is 2 completely unrelated sets of circumstances - I don't think Campbell's situation then can be compared to Reggie's now.

Campbell's sophomore and junior campaigns were superior to anything Reggie's ever done. It's not a good comparison.

And how was Auburn's OL during his sophomore and junior years??? Seems to me Auburn went 8-5 and 9-4 during that time.

[/ QUOTE ] Auburn will almost always field more talent and depth at OL than GT. During these specific seasons they were talented but young. There may have been some scheme problems as well - if you remember the first couple of games in '03 (USC and GT, Campbell's JR season), their OL was greatly exposed. They couldn't run or throw against USC or us.

They were very experienced and suffered no significant injuries in '04, their undefeated season.

After taking the spring off from posting on here, I couldn't resist saying something on this one. Lots of good dialogue here.

I think first of all that it's good that we have disagreement on here. If everyone were positive then, as pocket said earlier, it would be foolish. The program has just had too many low points in the last few years for anyone to think things are suddenly going to be wonderful just because we have an OC or a new recruiting coordinator.

I personally don't think CG is the best man for bringing us back to the glory days of Tech football, or even for making us consistently competitive with the UGAs, Miamis, FSUs, and VTs of this world. And until we are that - with the emphasis on the word "consistenly" - I don't think we're where we should, and can, be.

Dead horse or not, I've thought that for at least two years now, but since I am not the AD or school prez, my opinion doesn't change things.

Having said that, there's always hope with a new season. From my perspective here as summer's just starting, I don't see why we can't win 8 or, as RM says, 9 games, and go to a respectable bowl. To a point made earlier, I'll say that RB's BEST will be good enough; the problem is he has trouble playing his best often enough. But, maybe he will this year.

If we look inconsistent and sloppy on the field after 3 or 4 games, then the hope will fade quickly. If we show week-to-week improvement, beat the teams we should beat on paper, and surprise a couple that we shouldn't, then maybe we can all say we're on the way back. Time will tell.
