Because I’m a college football junkie, I watch the spring games of other teams too. It’s amazing to me how the fans start cheering like crazy when the “new hyped recruit” comes in vs the established QB. Watched the Texas spring game and those idiot fans cheered for Arch Manning like he was the second coming. By the end of the game, he was easily the 3rd string QB and it wasn’t even close.

I read where Nebraska sold 60,000 tickets to their Spring game.

I think it's more than reasonable to cheer for the first public plays of the number one recruit in the country.

Would you suggest they boo instead? Stay silent? Or should they cheer, but only a muted cheer instead of a loud cheer? What's the non-idiot move here?

At this point Manning is still a HS Senior, much like QB1 Ewers was when he first reported to tOSU, where he sat his first year, and two-three years behind in physical development & maturity than QB1 Ewers and QB2. Ewers was, like Lil Arch, the #1 rated HS QB.

Barring a load of injuries or complete & sudden ineptness by QB1 & QB2, I doubt any of the Mannings expect AM2 to get much more than mop up/clipboard duty this year. Quoting Captain Obvious, "It's a big leap from NOLA HS football to playing in front of 100,000 plus."

Sure, agreed. But op said they were idiots for cheering for him. I just don't see how that makes sense. I feel like it would be weird if they *didn't* cheer for him. It's a spring game, and he's a high profile player!

They would be idiots if they booed the other QBs, but there's nothing wrong with cheering to welcome a high profile recruit even if he's not ready to start this season.

Clearly the proper reaction is a polite golf clap.

Jets fans would boo.

Nebraska sells out almost every home game, suck or not.
I lived in Nebraska for four years. I can tell you first hand Nebraska football is all they have. Nothing else going on in that state other than Creighton basketball, maybe.

Remember when they played at Wake several years ago? Huskers fans bought Wake season tickets just to go that one game in Winston Salem

Did they also take the cigarette factory tour?
My sister worked for a brokerage firm in Winston at the time of the RJ Reynolds buyout. Said the number of people who came in and wouldn't sell their stock because grandma said to never sell the stock and we have to abide by what she said, even if it meant not cashing in for millions, was astounding.
