Stansbury's State of Athletics address

Can't watch at the moment. Is there any substance there?

He really gets it. Like his marketing focus. He says we need to close at $10 million revenue gap from $77 to $87) million to fit into the middle of the conference. Looking for new ways to find revenue streams.

Move the stripper parties from the apartments over off spring to the stadium?

New football locker room to be updated immediately following next football season. Called the Edge Building a joke without using those words.

Lots of talk about branding and marketing but the proof will be in the results.

We need to make up at least $10M in revenue to be competitive with the middle of the ACC. Right now we are in the bottom third. Be interesting to know how that compares on a per sport basis since we have fewer programs than almost every other school in the conference.

These are interesting:

One area that could lead to some significant revenue gifts is a much better relationship to our graduated (or yet to graduate) pros

We have been somewhat better already recently (alums at big games, etc), but historically it has been a pretty sore area for the GTAA and the Institute itself. Even just out of self-interest, it makes sense to at least leverage those relationships for publicity, and recruiting, and money.

And then we should be doing it anyways as part of the Homer Rice's Total Person concept, imo

As I've posted elsewhere, I've been to all of these addresses over the past three AD's, and this one felt very different to me. Stansbury sees his own personal experience as embodying what is so great about the GT student-athlete's experience. He basically thinks he's selling his own story. You can't imitate that kind of sincerity.

Haven't felt this encouraged by our AD since Rice was here.

What Brainless and the other guy - can't even remember his name - used as excuses, Stansbury considers assets and opportunities.

Things are looking up over at the Edge Center.

Last time I saw the 'study hall', it was about to be renovated, looked somewhat dated to me.

I wonder how long athletes are gonna continue not getting paid when Scholarship costs are 10.6mm, but personnel costs are 26mm.

Seems like putting the cart way before the horse.

Athletes do get paid. Where have you been?

I'll never understand this way of thinking. The students are playing ball, getting a free extremely expensive education, on their way to a real job. This actually is the staff's real job. Why wouldn't they get paid the market rate for doing it?

Because it makes a sham of the whole idea of amateurism. Apparently purity requires everyone gets paid, except the actual players.

It "makes a sham of the whole idea of amateurism" for the grown men and women who are working full time to get paid for their time, but the kids who are getting free educations and playing because they love the sport not to get paid? It is strange the way you use the phrase "makes a sham of" to mean "exemplifies".
