On the GT Sports Blog, there is an interesting post from Ramblin' Red showing how our rushing attempts per fumble have improved each game so far this season. Below are his findings summarized:
Jax St. = 9.2 running plays per fumble
BC = 13.3 running plays per fumble
VT = 16.7 running plays per fumble
Miss St. = 18 running plays per fumble
This got me thinking about how much room there is to improve in this area so I decided to look at this stat for Navy over the past couple of seasons.
2004 = 36.26 running plays per fumble
2005 = 32.00 running plays per fumble
2006 = 22.47 running plays per fumble
2007 = 38.28 running plays per fumble
So when we really get this thing down, we will only be putting it on the turf 1 or 2 times a game which means we will average about 1 turnover per game from fumbling. While we have shown steady improvement in this area, our ball security has a long way to go.
