I didn't think so. :P
If it's played at the beginning of the year, it's a footnote to the season. "Well, we lost to Georgia/GT, now it's time to play for the ACC/SEC." No! The game's outcome should resonate for the offseason and not be some footnote.
Beginning the season with it is Busch league. Some border wars and secondary rivalries are played during the season, such as Miami-FSU or Bama-UT. But no significant rivalry exists which is played earlier in the year.
Not the last game.......Look how we are acting. I still have not come off the cloud. Playing this game last makes it the most important game of the year. It should NOT be. Clemson should be. We care more about beating Ugag than winning our conference. We would have been at a disadvantage mentally and physically if we were the ACC championship game. How do I know I am right? Because, right now, I don't care that VPI won Sat. I know a lot others feel the same way. It should not be though.
Yes, having momentum and confidence in yourself due to beating an in-state rival is a terrible mental disadvantage. You really don't want to be on a roll when you go into a big game. Also, clearly we would have had less injuries this weekend from playing Clemson as opposed to U[sic]GA. Playing U[sic]GA always puts us at a big physical disadvantage the next weekend. And somehow you know these two things because you are incredibly happy as a fan, and that is a bad thing.
