Strong days numbered?

Fascinating thread. I'm waiting to hear everyone's opinions. With your mom.

Another in a long line of great assistants slated to become the next great head coach. Hiring assistants is like flipping a coin.

My take is that assistants becoming head coaches tend to succeed if they hire good assistants themselves.

Meanwhile, SMU up on Houston 21-0. Tom Herman is supposed to be the savior of Texas or LSU, depending which one hires him.

I think the fans of factories in general have had their expectations extremely skewed by Saban and Meyer teams. It's actually very uncommon in history to have their level of success at where they've coached (Bama, UF and tOSU). If Texas fires Strong, it may very well work out as well as UGA firing Richt.

To be honest Strong has been nowhere close to as good as Richt was when he got fired.

Agree with most of this, but as the poster above said, Strong hasn't come close to reaching the level of success Richt had at UGA. Texas is just struggling to make bowl games these days.

Big East schedule?

There's a few places you should always win 9-10 games per year. Texas is near the top of that list.

Strong went 7-6, 7-6, 11-2, 12-1. Sugar Bowl win against Florida in second to last year.

The schedule did get easier as teams like WV left the Big East/AAC. But there's no indication here that Strong is bad coach.

Strong is done for. Texas to remain mediocre for the next decade.
