Subject not brought up in a while

It might depend upon the outcome of the bowl game.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/soapbox.gifI would hope that CCG would do the responsible thing and turn over the reigns of the offense to a true Offensive Co-Ordinator. Although I haven't been impressed so far with Patrick Nix, if he is retained he must open the offense up and do a much better job w/ the QB position that he is responsible for coaching. If a new OC were to be named, my preference would be Chris Hatcher of Valdosta State University. He (CCG)definitely needs to take a more hands on approach with the Special Teams ala Frank Beamer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twocents.gif

There are going to be a couple of changes from what I have been told. It will not happen until after signing day most likely.

sorry guys I better not.

until something happens officially you never know for sure and I would not want their name out there.

YES!!! Can someone please call CHRIS HATCHER!!!!
He would be a great addition!

This probably sounds stupid, but what is so attractive about Coach Hatcher.
Could you or someone give a quick hi-lite resume' on him?
No need for his academic accomplishments. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I too would like to know more about him. I would also like to know why you are not impressed with Nix. I'm not sure if anyone but an inside can really know what he has or hasn't done with the offense.

what i would like to know, is how is it that

a guy who was an OC in the NFL for top teams making the playoffs is not a "real" OC

what are the Steelers and Dolphins and Cowboys? are they not "real" teams?

i dont understand the logic you propose. Gailey's offensive knowledge is more than any guy coaching in our league!

You are certainly correct that I don't know what tactical things Nix is or isn't doing, and for the reason you gave.
I don't know what the right move is, but Gailey needs to make a change or do some things alot better to fix the problem on offense.

I guess it's just human nature that I would like to see something substantive happen in the off season. I know I won't feel good going into '06 if its status quo.

Pocket thanks for the honest answer. My take on this leans more toward the personnel available to run the offense. I really don't have a major problem with the play calling. As we improve our personnel on offense I think you will see the improvement you are looking for next year.

Overall I like our play calling. But what Chan has got to correct are those things that keep us out of the endzone. Whether that's giving Nix more responsibility, letting someone else work directly with the QBs or what, that is the single thing that is holding us back IMO. If the issue is limitations that Reggie has that's fine, but the coaching staff has to find a way to use his strengths to score more points.

I have zero complaints overall with the play calling either.
I think some fans confuse questionable decision making on intended receivers with poor play calling.

Regarding personnel improvements, I am looking forward to one of the meanings of your statement. Crafty Devil! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/FIREdevil.gif

changes not made until after signing day? Why? In the hopes that some players won't change their commitments? Does not make sense to me, and am not sure, if this is the case, that it is ethical towards the youngster being recruited now.

If we make changes, it should be for the best, and that includes the recruiting capabilities of any new coaches.

Re: what i would like to know, is how is it that

maybe I should have said that he should turn over the reigns to a true OC, and not have an OC in name only (the situation that we are currently in). You are correct when you say that he was an OC for some top NFL teams that made the playoffs; however, I don't remember any of those teams taking away the Lombardi trophy at the end of the season. And IIRC he had some of the same issues at Dallas when he assumed both the OC/HC duties. That is something that has been pointed out that he promised not to do here. Myself and many other posters find that this season's offense has been anemic to say the least. Had our offense been able to match the intensity and productivity of our defense, I would venture to guess that nobody on this board would be disappointed in either the W-L record or the bowl game that we would be playing in. Is it his play calling or is it lack of execution by the players that he has put into position to make the plays? Flip a coin because and argument could be made for each case. I for one, would like to see more yardage on the ground, more yardage through the air, and MORE POINTS ON THE BOARD. You see that when you have more points at the END of the game than the opponent has, in sports terminology it is called a WIN. Riddle me this, if you have the ball on your opponent's 11 yard line 1st and 10 with 1:11 on the clock, two time outs available and behind by 7 points and you have been getting positive yardage on the ground, why would you not take a chance on two running plays and use your time outs prudently? I am still baffled by that one.

Texstinger....it has been that way forever. There is just too much time being invested in recruiting on the payroll for one of the 117 D1 schools for a last minute change. Not to say it isn't possible....but it is just not likely.

They also tend to wait until after the national coaches association conference in the early spring...a lot of interviews take place at that.

It is really not a big deal.

interesting that you should bring up that

specific point

first off, that the play turns into an interception is about as likely as a fumble

also, a standard rule in football is that when the going gets tough, you give the ball to your best players to win the game -- thats Calvin

also, recently i was watching a game and BILL PARCELLS did exactly what Gailey did. exactly the same plays on the same downs - but, hey, i guess you are puzzled because you just dont know enough about football other than looking in a rear-view mirror complaining when something didnt work.

if we would have run the ball and not gotten in, you probably would have been arguing that we should have thrown to Calvin; so give up your pretensions of knowing better

furthermore, Gaileys offense is not "vanilla" nor boring, as "gailey's offense" is an evolving thing that changes to utilize the personnel (remember "slash", for example?) . he does prefer a big back and some good TEs, and its fairly close to the offense that the Steelers run under Ken Whisenhut. did you see the Steelers play without Rothlisberger? enough said regarding execution vs coaching.

i dont think i ever saw Gailey drop a single pass this year, altough calling those fumbles so close the end of games was kind of silly

to be a great team you have to have a GREAT quarterback like a DGreen, MLeinart, etc

being good at that position, in the absense of an INCREDIBLE back is not enough to be dominant in a league that is as good on defense as the ACC
