It sure has been a wild ride the last few days.

I dont know if the GT nation has been up in arms like this for quite some time, and definitely not since the days of the internet

I see GT at a major crossroads with this hire, clearly going to go up or down from here, I doubt the next coach will pull off a string of 7-5 seasons, it'll either be better or worse. Therefore, I hope DRad takes all the time needed, even if the class this year suffers to a degree.

I am more interested in how the next coach will effect the next 5 years, not the next 5 weeks

I hope the next coach brings discipline back to the program

i'll be in the minority but I dont think these boards "destroy" recruiting, when I was being recruited there was no internet but if I would have made a decision based on what the armchair QB's/fans thought, I wouldnt have made the right decision anyway.

I think the fan base had been divided far too long to recover under the former regime

I am tired of the apathy and perceived acceptance of mediocrity associated with GT

The local sports radio stations talk all day long about us being satisfied with a 7 win season and how we shouldnt expect to beat UGA more then 1-2 times every 10 years..... I guess they got this from our former AD but I disagree emphatically. Lets prove them all wrong.

My 1st goal for success
is not in "how many wins" but I want to get back to finishing ranked. I know most hate GOL but we did run off 5 consective finishes in the top 25 from 1997-2001, lets get back to finishing in the top 25.

My 2nd goal is to play bowl games east of the Mississippi unless its a BCS bowl or another MAJOR bowl. I dont expect a BCS bowl every year but the humanitarian, emerald, silicon, etc isnt where my realistic goals are...

My 3rd and most important is to beat UGA 4-5 times out of 10. UGA in its current state with their degree programs vs. ours, will probably always have an overall better stable of talent. We can beat them with better coaching and more desire, like we did in the late 90's.

Dave Braine must be somewhere laughing

I would advise the new coach to avoid getting blown out by UGA, especially in the 1st year and never let your players quit in that game or any game for that matter

The new coach needs to instill the rivalry back in this program. When we went down 31-17,with 9 minutes left, everyone started leaving and players were walking off the field! Unacceptable

I like Randy Edsall because he has been at GT, Young, Energetic, motivated, established record of building from scratch, and since i know him and played for him, I just "know" he could do it

Hatcher is interesting

Muschamp would have to really make us believe he would instill the hate

I cant believe but i have seen the "ole ball coach" mentioned in some threads and that would be VERY interesting and SELL tickets immediately

In the end, I am tired of being the doormat, B****, or whatever you want to call it. We play the GT tradition video prior to the game and it gets the stadium pumped and I would like to start adding to that video ASAP.

Lets get behind the new hire and do our part to make it work, however big or small it might be

I hope the new coach returns the GT FOOTBALL FAMILY atmosphere back to the program.

are u serious? Gailey did that.

We don't need discipline, we need attitude. We're the softest team and fan base in the conference besides Duke and Wake.

Damn nice post Nate. Couldn't agree more. I know a lot of things can go wrong in the hiring process. If we make a mistake, let's not sit on our hands for 6 years.

Nate, if the new coach has your passion we will be in good shape.

Agree with your 1st, 2nd, 3rd priorities, that's a great list.

I know most hate GOL ...

Is this true? I surely don't hate George. I believe in "To err is human, to forgive divine.", and George made some human errors, but I still respect and admire him.

That is whay 56 is saying. We were soft. He is talking about discipline on the field, not off of it. A Chan Gailey practice was very casual compared to what I saw under GOL. The moved at a snail's pace under CG and I think that is what we saw on the field quite often.

Tenuta drove his kids, but the tempo was set from the top and I think it was a problem for us.

oh i see, sorry, i stopped reading after i saw that statement.

my apologies 56

One things for sure, either it's going to get better, or it's going to get worse.

Soft I think is a mild term. Did you ever see the D under Chan come on the field and try and pump up the Crowd? Yes but not often and not in a way that said they were ready to hut the other team.

Discipline and Pride and Passion. Something the HC and his staff should plant in the recruit and young player.

Good post...

To nitpick, step one where we finish in the top 25 will be based pretty much on winning the bowl and is therefore not an entirely accurate barometer. (Unless we are BCS level going in...)

I say this because we can play well and overachieve during the season and get matched up against a superior opponent, lose, and then end up between 26 and 40.

We need to be ranked going into the UGA game every season IMHO. No excuses to not be there at least.

Umm, every game, multiple times per game?

Did you even go to the games?

I never attended a Gailey practice, but it was obvious from the lack of productivity in the passing game that your statement is absolutely true. It takes lots of reps (and with NCAA mandated practice limitations) to hone the college passing game, and the lack of execution revealed a lack of reps. Part of Friedgen's success was due to efficient practices.

I'll give you an example of lack of discipline from first hand experience. This is where Patrick Nix finally lost me for good, but it is indicative of the non-Tenuta part of our team.

One practice the team was switching drills and the offense lined for the wrong drill. Did a coach go ape **** on them or correct them? No, Nix just said,"Ok, if you guys want to run that drill instead we'll do that." Are you kidding me? How players supposed to respect coaches or be disciplined when you have that kind of crap going on? Players need to know that when their coaches ask them to do something that it is for a good reason and not merely a suggestion.

Yea, I go to the game, 48 yd upper east until Bran Dead said a Class of 76 was not paying enough for tickets, so I was demoted to the 35 yd line. This D was not emotional like those of the past. When we had a 3rd and long or inches there was 1 D getting the hands up. It takes 11 on the field and a stadium full to help win the game, i.e. Texas A&M and the 12th Man. Chan may have had the team on his side, Chan never showed that the to those of us paying the admission price.

we need passion and pride instilled in this team. even though muschamp has a ugag degree, i think he would be the right choice. i just don't think you can go wrong with him.

let's knock those motherf*ckers out.

THWG!!!

Nate, please along with John and any other former players you can get, keep up the heat on Drad about not even considering a Dog for coach..Muschamp would only divide our house and at this time we sure don't need that.

I don't think this Muschamp rumor has any leg's , but, better to squash that before it get's started.

Any hire DRad makes is going to divide the fanbase in some way; why not be open to all possibilities?

I, for one, am very upbeat and enthusiastic about the future. As I've said before, this is a defining, watershed moment in DRAd's career. Professionally, he wants to bring in the right guy because I personally don't see him being around too much longer and I'm sure he wants to prove to that next employer that he knows how to be an AD. And finding the right guy for GT will be a feather in his cap.

Our current recruiting coordinators are proving that you can get the right kids with the talent level that it takes. I doubt we can stand toe-to-toe, every year, with the likes of ugag on an overal talent level but we can recruit enough to beat them regularly.

I can't wait for spring practice.
