Sunday morning\'s Athens Banner Herald....
The rivalry referred to as Clean Ole Fashioned Hate lived up to it's billing on Saturday night in downtown Atlanta, Georgia at Historic Grant Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium. In the last 25 years of this rivalry Georgia holds a big edge in the record posting 18 wins in the last 25 meetings.
With Georgia coming off an easy win against Kentucky and the Yellow Jackets still reeling from a 14-10 upset of #3 ranked Miami, the stage was set for a classic in the annual renewal of this rivalry.
With Georgia ranked #13 and Georgia Tech ranked #20 bragging rights were at stake. Georgia came in knowing it was headed back to Atlanta this week for the SEC Championship game on Saturday. Georgia Tech came in with a chip on their shoulder after what they felt was a lack of respect for the big win against Miami the previous week.
The first part of the game saw both sides exchanging several punts as they tried to get comfortable with each others game plan. Toward the end of the first half GT began showing the brilliance their defense has shown all year long except for the hiccup at Virginia Tech earlier in the year. The defense took over led by their front seven. All Georgia saw was the swarming Yellow Jacket defense from the mid part of the second quarter until mid way through the fourth quarter. At halftime the score was locked at 10-10 with bragging rights still to be won in the second half.
When both teams took the field for the second half kick-off, the offense exploded for Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets scored 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 27-10 lead half way through the fourth quarter. The connection of Reggie Ball to Calvin Johnson could not be answered by the Georgia defense. When they doubled Johnson, Ball simply threw the ball to the other side of the filed to the other host of receivers including Bilbo, Carter, and M. Johnson. Georgia did not go away easily and each time they came close to the GT endzone the DEFENSE put a swarming stop to a drive.
In the end it was a resounding 27-17 WIN for The Men on The Flats. For the next 364 days the GT faithful will hold bragging rights in the state of Georgia.
THAT'S what I am TALKING about for Saturday night.
I can't wait to kick the mutts at their own game, then send them to the SEC game with 3 out of 4 losses.
SCREW UGAg!! UGAy!! and all their damn following.
I have always hated the damn pups and I will till the day I leave this earth!!!!!!!!
There ya go men, I just hope I am as damn lucky this week as I was last week. I still don't care if the score is 2-0. A Win is a Win in my book.
