Every year a large group of my family get together and goto a Tech game. This year I've decided to attempt to tailgate. I have the tent, the grill, the chairs, etc.

I just need advice on how to handle things on campus. Are there any areas off limits? Any areas recommeded? Are there assigned spots or is it first come first serve? Best time to get there and set up? Anything I should know, what not to do?

I really want them to get the campus game day experience, so I don't want to tailgate on the top of Tech Sq parking deck but somewhere with grass and trees.

I really don't want to step on any toes and take someones spot that they've been in for 20 years.

Any advice would help.

Also, does anyone have any good places here in the Atlanta area to buy good tailgating stuff?

I'm bringing 14 loyal souls to the Maryland game, so please help if you can.

Thanks,

You need to contact the AA and see if you can get reserved spots for one game. I would try around the baseball field, AMC, or O'Keefe. All have good people who are out having fun. A lot of Hivers are in the AMC lot and they have a good time. There are quite a few families in O'Keefe as well, but neither area has a ton of grass. Near the Russ Chandler there are some good green areas, but they fill up pretty quickly. I think you have to have a parking permit to get into any of these areas, so calliing the AA would help.

Best plan is to just be polite. I'm fairly new to the tailgating game, doing it the last few years, and we've secured our group a good spot on campus. Show up early-ish, don't take up too much space your first time out and you'll probably be fine, people are more than welcoming but you're right that sometimes they might get a little protective if they've been there for years.

Might want to check out around the library/arch buildings, don't venture that way often myself on gamedays, but lots of grass around there.

My guess is anyone who's been tailgaiting at Tech for 20 years will be there well before you. That or they'll have something reserving their spot. Just my guess though.

Assuming that you don't have a parking permit, I believe the lot behind the Physics building is still a pay and park lot and there is plenty of empty green space all around. If you get there early enough you should be able to procure a good spot.
