Greetings all,

I am a TECH alum, nad sad to say, have not been to a game since I graduated in 2002. I picked up a Flex Pack this year for the BC, UNC and UGA games.

When I was on campus, we "tailgating" in our dorm or later our off campus apartment. Having never tailgated on campus on gameday, I have no0 clue where to start. Given I am only going to 3 games, spending $150 on a parking permit seems silly.

According to ramblingwreck.com parking info, it looks like there are a couple of lots (including the Physics lot) that go for $20 per vehicle on day of game. Is that a bad spot? ANyone know how early we might need to get there to even have a chance at a spot?

Just looking for tips as again, we have never done the tailgating thing outside of being a student on campus.

Thanks in advance for any replies and tips.

I think W21 (aka Physics Lot) is now permit only?
But it looks like on the parking map that there is a small section of W21 thats still Visitor Parking??

It is permit parking but they are selling single game parking permits which is probably what he is referring to.

Looks like single game passes are only available for W04 and W24.

In the past if you got there really early you could usually park anywhere, but now with Lanier handling everything I'm sure that will change.

Link to Single Game Parking Passes

If you end up tailgating W24 the area is pretty nice, We tailgated in W26 last year for ND before we purchased season parking passes. There isn't much shade around there so I'd recommend a tent if you don't want to be in direct sun. After that we moved over to the area between DramaTech and the Campanile.

The only issue with that area is you may have a lot of visiting fans tailgating. You could always park in W24 and walk your stuff up to W21....depending on how much you have to carry.

We've been tailgating in W24 for several years straight and have loved it. Unfortunately, when we were assigned our season passes, we got W21. We're in the process of attempting to get them moved to W24, but, I don't anticipate that working out too well.

Not to say that W21 is bad, we just prefer the smaller lot and the green space next to it.

We were also moved to W21. Not sure why? :dunno:

Not sure at all. We want to stay in W24 and hope that we can work it out to where we can, though, we may end up being the only Tech people in this lot if they're using it for single-game passes (read: visitors).

Update:

According to the GT parking office, passes marked W21/W24 can park in either lot as they're both considered "Central Campus." So, it's a matter of preference.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like all the single game passes are for W04 (across from the engineers bookstore) it looks like.

Do season ticket holders get passes for each game? Or one for the whole season? If they are single games passes, perhaps you can grab the parking passes for sale if they are not going to be used?

Season ticket holders had the option to also apply for a season-long pass at the time of season ticket orders. They were broken down by "area of campus," i.e. - "Central Campus" (W21/W24). We applied for "Central Campus," as we've always tailgated in W24. When we saw the pass (it's one pass that has all of the "valid" games listed on it) as being assigned to the W21 lot, we attempted to call and switch this to W24. After a couple of phone calls, it was confirmed that this pass will work in either lot. This leads me to believe that the same will be true of other passes which were bought under an "area of campus" premise.

I could be wrong, though.

W21 is near yellow jacket park and closer to the stadium.

Also, they have removed the parking lot in back of Van Leer and put grass there.

At any rate, I think I know where you guys tailgate. I used to live near there and walk by on the way to the stadium. Good luck getting your pass switched!

I think the image below may help out some people.

The lot outlined in orange is W21. The lot outlined in teal is W24. They're both considered the "Central Campus" lots. According to the GT Parking Office, if you have a pass assigned to W21 or W24, you can park in either lot, no matter what it says on the pass, as they're both fall under the "Central Campus" designation. Now, whether or not that holds true... ?

The area outlined in yellow is the "greenspace" I was referring to when talking about where we tailgate in W24.

I know these aren't the only lots people are concerned with, but, it may help out somewhat. :)

Yep. I'm not sure if you guys tailgate there ever yhome game, but I've definitely seen a lot of people in that green area you mentioned.

Also, notice the south end of W21 is near yellow jacket park and the student center and about a 6 minute walk to the stadium.

Yep! We've been in that green space every home game for the past 4 years or so now. It's not too bad of an additional walk to Yellow Jacket Park/Student Center/Stadium, and we also just like it's proximity to the parking deck (for people who show up late to the tailgate and don't have an assigned parking pass).

All in all, looking forward to a great year of tailgating and GT Football!

Derek,

Where is the parking deck you are referring to? Is it the massive coimplex I see at the corner of State and Peachtree Place?

Do you know if anyone can park in the deck the day of the games? If so, it sounds like our best best since we have no parking permit and that greenspace is very easy to setup in, tailgate, then take everything back to the car before the hike to the stadium.

Getting pumped for the season already. Started with a 3 Game Flex this year, hoping for season tix sometime in the coming years. Do season tix require large donations to the AA like other schools or have a waiting list that you guys know of? On the website it looks like it is pretty much just the cost of the tix, nothing else.

Thanks!

Yep, that's the parking deck. You should be able to get in there tomorrow without issue (pay, of course).

Since we only have 2 season parking passes, the rest of our tailgate crew will park over there and walk over as well.

As for season tickets, they don't require a large donation to the AA. There are certain seats in the stadium where you have to pay a "seat license" (The TECH Fund) to be able to purchase a season ticket, but there are still plenty of seats in the stadium that don't require that donation.

Thanks for the update. I really appreciate it.

I won't be at the game tomorrow. I have tickets to BC, UNC and UGA. SO just trying to do all my recon prior to the BC game.

Would you happen to know how much people pay for that parking desk? I would guess $20. Well, I would HOPE that is it. Heh.

Thanks again. Sad to say the only tailgating I have ever done was at Tech/UGA games AT UGA when I was still in school. Sad sad sad. Looking forward to walking around and seeing the campus again.

Just thought I'd update this again:

Despite what we were told by the Tech Parking Office, we weren't able to park in lot W24 Saturday (at first). The people working for Lanier were very assertive with the fact that since we had a W21 pass, we had to park in W21. We were still allowed to unload our stuff before moving, and when I talked to the attendant at around 12:45 and the lot only had 4 cars in it, we were able to move one vehicle back over. Have another call into the parking office to attempt to figure things out, but, we weren't the only ones told that we could park in W24 with a W21 pass. We'll see where it goes from here...

Despite that, it was great to be back and tailgating again! I was also pleasantly surprised to see the number of people there tailgating for Samford. I know this week with BC will be even more crowded!
