With a holiday on my hands and too lazy to do stuff that is piled up, I decided to play the numbers game, (recruiting numbers) that is.
Maybe somebody in the know can explain this but if Rivals is dependable, and if I didn't make any errors, Wake Forrest is just unbelieveable. We all have know that they didn't recruit well, but they have been in last place in the ACC every year less 2003, when they let Duke jump behind them. Their average for recruiting ranking for years 2002-2007 is a meer 76.77 for all NCAA. Our average rank for the same period is only 51.3. Maybe these coaches are better at coaching up than working with the blue chippers.

I'm curious now to see how the ACC teams rank for the next season.

Amazing!! Unbelieveable!! Can't happen!! But it did.

romegajacket, are 2 gravy burgers at the 4 Way just about the best thing ever? I usually follow those up with a hotdog with chili and almost roll out into the street. Makes me want to drive up to C,ville right now!:D

Stop right there. I'm heading up to Rome this weekend and will surely be hungry at some point. I need to know where this 4-way you speak of is located.

GTWannaBee, the 4 Way is in Cartersville, Ga. Take the Main St. exit off I-75 north, cross over Joe Frank Harris Hwy, the 4 Way is across the street from Bank of America. Closes 2:00 or 3:00 pm on Saturdays , not open on Sundays. You might have to wait for a place at the counter, there are no tables. I can assure you that you will not forget the 4 Way. They do not serve any low calorie dishes!

If you do make it up this way to dine with us at the 4-Way, make sure you take time to visit the Booth Museum. World Class!

I had to google the 4-way out of further curiosity. The diner has it's own resolution commending it's 50-year tradition. It must be good if the Senate takes time to pass a resolution. We all know how little they actually do. Here's the link: http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/1995_96/leg/fulltext/sr303.htm

Here's a write-up I found:

"This place is as classic as they come. It's over 50 years old and looks the part. This place has seen presidents come and go, buildings erected, and racism fall. This being the heart of the South and also the last state to end segregation, it only makes sense that, on the back half of this small order-to-go restaurant, there is a small window that used to be used for blacks only. Now, of course, this is out of commission, but it's still eerily strange to see.

The Four Way has some of the fastest, greasiest, and tastiest hand-cooked food in Cartersville. At lunchtime, there are lines out the door, mainly because there is only enough room inside for about six people to stand. If you're ever in Cartersville, this is a must-do. This place is a local legend, and people are proud of it. The food is great. It's all classic Southern food to go. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, sandwiches, etc. Everything's great. It's hard to recommend any one item from the menu. I usually go with the All-American classic cheeseburger. It's big, it's greasy, and it's delicious. If, for some reason, you get lost and can't find The Four Way, just ask. Anyone in town -- even someone new -- can point you in the right direction!"

I'm now fully intrigued. If I can't make it this time, I'll certainly be making the stop during one of my many trips to Rome. We'll at least be making the manditory stop at the QT for the wife to concoct a slushy. Great drink system they have there.

Also, I checked out the Booth Museum. I assumed it was a joke in reference to the 4-way. If I have time, I certainly will stop by. Nothing like some culture as your arteries are being clogged.

Funny story about the old 4 way.

Back in the early 60's, I started calling on them to sell them cigars, cigarettes, candy, some resturant supplies, etc. I had a hard time cracking that bunch as they would only buy just what they had to from me since I had exclusive on some items. My daddy had been selling to them since he returned from WWII and learned how to get in there. He told me that the only way he knew that I could make them worth my time was to simply "cuss them out". I wasn't in too big of a hurry to try that avenue so I plodded along for a while just getting the bits & pieces of their business. One day I went in and started getting a little rough with them and I noticed they did seem to react in a positive way. On my next trip in, they needed some "LifeSaver" candy so I asked how many and what flavor they wanted and I was told "Ahhhh, you know that 5 of all flavors". Of course I knew he was referring to the "5 Flavor LifeSaver" but I also knew it was a good chance to start some good trouble. Sooo, I sent them 5 CASES of every kind/flavor of LifeSavers that was made. What a load I had going in over there. LOL ::)). When I went in the next time, I was cussed all the way back out into the street so I cussed my way right back in the store and they turned out to be my best customer in Cartersville.
I'm afraid those tactics may not work too well today though.
In Ref to the museum:
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO TAKE THAT TRIP.
That museum is a world class museum that can stand with any museum anywhere. I've seen it once now and am ready to go again.
When you do get to go to Cartersville, I hope you are sure to try these two places. You won't be sorry. I wish Rome still had some old places like the 4Way. We are eat up with chain resturants now. Nothing wrong with them, but they don't have the character as the older independants have. Besides, if you cuss someone in these new franchise resturants, you may get shot dead. They just don't appreciate a good cussing.

romegajacket, were you around when the 4 Way burned down? (probably from a grease fire) and the owner decided that he was not going to rebuild. Word got out and all hell broke lose. Someone from Cartersville started a petition to bring it back and the owner just could not ignore it so he did rebuild. I've still got a shirt commemorating the date of the "Grand Reopening". Only in the south, you gotta love it.
