Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

He's a friend of mine, who is the agent for several football players including former Tech guys. While he is glad to have Hargrove in his stable, he feels that his stock would have been incredibly higher had he played another year of Tech ball.
Hargrove had a 1.9 GPA going into the last fateful semester. The academic counselor gave him his new schedule which contained +/-4 very hard classes and one somewhat easier class. Hargrove told the counselor that this new schedule would be too demanding and requested it be revised. The counselor told him he could handle the workload, brushed it off, and the rest is now history. His agent says that what went down with Hargrove and others was a real shame. He describes Hargrove as an intelligent and articulate young man, who handles himself better than the average college athlete. He also says that Hargrove does not have hard feelings toward Tech for what happened to him.
This agent is currently talking to a current Junior Tech football player about the possibility of representing him if he choses to turn Pro after this season (remember, it is legal to talk, illegal to pay or give gifts). The player has indicated a desire to forego his Senior season if he continues to do well this year.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

So now we lose Tony Hargrove forever?

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

Yep, if Hargrove signed with an agent he can no longer play college football. Hargrove never used his redshirt yr either. Truly sad what happened to these young men.
Moore said "I don't see how we could've helped them more. It was their own fault" or words to that effect.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

At Tech, if you get the "drop notice" you are pretty much done. The warning to drop sequence is very well outlined.

To get back on good standing requires not only making up bad time, but staying in good standing with the current work.

I found myself on the first phase of warning my junior year, and it was a bitch. Happy ending, but a bitch indeed!

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

I don't know if it was Tony's fought or the schools but both will suffer.

I wish Tony well and hope he can overcome this.

I wonder if 1 year from now losing those ten will be the difference in CG remaining the head coach or moving on.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

It may only be 3-4 months from now whether he is a long termer or gone before the next year begins.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

Refresh my memory, was Hargrove a jr in school? Sounds like the academic advisor did a truly sorry job with Tony and cost him the rest of his Tech career and us a great player. But I can't help but mention the 1.9GPA going into the semester. He may have gotten bad advice but what's the reason he was in that shape to begin with? And were the "tough" courses the next requirements for his degree? For all we know he may have used up all his electives (as at least one report suggests Joe Burns had). Sad situation for both Tony and the school, let's hope we do a better job in the future.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

Tony was a good kid who got treated like a leper by the GTAA after he officially flunked out.

I hope Col. Stephens reccomends some dismissals in GTAA staff once he figures out what is going on.

Send me a private message with your email, and lets hook up for a few beers this fall to talk about it!

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

Everytime something comes up like this there is always a group of people who come back with "how do you know it's true?" in a defense of these academic hacks who love to flex a little beauracratic muscle.

We can debate whose fault it is all day, but we have indication he wasn't a complete slacker.

I do know this - while we debate the policies - we continue to line up and play against about 9 schools on our schedule that have the Hargrove's and even those below him academically on their roster.

Clough needs to overhaul our entire commitment to football - first and foremost with academic policies.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">#70 better do a lot better this year than last if he's got plans to go.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

SOunds like the big LT maybe be looking to the NFL, can't say I blame him though everyone is high on him he could go first or second round if so he should go get his money and take care of his family, just not make a UGAG move like Chris Clemmons leave early and go undrafted

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">So far that's not a story. Agents have a way of making contact with these guys and talking about "possibilities." It's in the agent's best interest to be first in line. "The player" may have responded to an overture as to interest and a modest proposal nothing more.

Re: Talked to Hargrove\'s agent ....

Father Wasp nailed it.The new current environment is going to destroy us in fball.A train wreck in slow motion in front of us all.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Absolutely agree. That is why he should start by getting a new head of his subsidiary, the AA. This way they could work together on ensuring that Homer Rice' Legacy used in over 170 schools across the country and is the basis for the NCAA "Champs" program, The Total Person Concept, doesnt further embarrass Rice and the GT community any longer. Good post Father

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Yes, let's hope we don't turn our back on our players ever again. Get them the help they need so we don't have this situation to deal with. Seems like some of you would rather be like Vandy or Duke when it comes to academics. We've got to get "players" to compete at the highest level,...so we need to make sure we do what is necessary to keep them eligible.

GATA JACKETS!!!
