Tauren Poole
RB | 5'10" 195
Hometown: Toccoa, GA
School: StephensCountyHigh School

ESPN 150

Evaluation: Poole is a tightly wound ball of nylon. He is a compact blend of power, agility and strength. He is a jump-cut runner with great vision and cutback ability. He runs with terrific leverage, body lean and power for his size. Pad level is outstanding. He does not go down easily. He will break many tackles with leg drive and initial power. His agility and balance is phenomenal. Rarely goes down with the first attempt to tackle him and is slippery in tight spaces. Has a knack for making people miss in the hole and behind the line of scrimmage. Pound for pound, he is one of the toughest runners in this class. Poole contributes in the passing game on swing routes, screens and check downs. He routinely bounces runs to the outside, is shifty enough to make the first defender miss and is capable of breaking some big runs. Poole has competitive speed, not the best speed. He can be a short strider, which gives him the appearance of being a little stiff in the hips. He is quick and elusive but not overly explosive. He is slick and tough but not a jolt of lightning. The bottom line is that Poole is a load. He may be a little short, but is put together, is extremely difficult to tackle and will wear you down. Tauren is a great prospect and has been compared to Cadillac Williams, former Auburn runningback and current NFLer.

But Mustang, Tauren has already committed to Tennessee. Well, I know that, but I am writing about him anyway. Call it a hunch...Well, maybe it’s just wishful thinking. We’ll have to wait and see.

That is Toccoa, Georgia...........NOT Tennessee!

Home of the Swillings......and a bunch of other good fottball players.

Enough that I wanted to create a thread on him. I am not sure that he will leave the Vols, but I would call him a very soft verbal at best. Also, you have to look at the fact that we only have 1 or 2 runningback spots available...most likely only 1. And we have Watson and Bolden who are very interested in that spot. So, the race is on. I wouldn't be surprised to see that spot filled in another week or two.

MGT, do you think we have enough resources to get this guy to defect to us?

We are not pushing that hard for him...but will take athletes that could play other positions. We like Peeples and Watson better....and I bet Watson commits this summer.

Very interesting post, Mustang. Sounds like a killer dude if Chan and Co. could lasso him.

"Tightly wound ball of nylon"....geezus, that's kind of scary. Does he come with a pull string or wind up key or do you just set a match to it and run away?

As hivered mentions, we have better options. We have good depth a rb already and we're not going to take more than two rbs.

I really don't see Peeples being our Back of the future. I look at him as maybe a return specialist and/or a slot/wing type of player. I think that our staff sees him the same way. Thus, if we were going to take two Backs then I don't think that hw will count against the two. Poole would be more of a featured Back, like Dwyer. If Watson commits , then I still think that we will take one more...Bolden, Poole, or Deboskie. If Poole wants to be a Jacket, they will not say no. I don't care how many we've received verbals from. Could you imagine having a Poole, Watson combo. It would be similar to Cadillac and Ronnie Brown at Auburn. :eek5:

Have we or are we considering offering Poole. I don't see any information on us offering him but we are still listed as med interest from him on scout.

To my knowledge, Poole has not received an official offer. However, I am sure that if he wants one he will get one.

Peeples wont be a featured back...hes a return specialists. Poole is waiting to see if GT shows interest if they do then he could change his commitment...We have better options though, Watson will commit soon and then look for Bolden too.

not necessarily....he wants one...but we have not offered.

Also...just because a guy is small it does not mean they cannot play in the one-back sets or be a feature back. It depends on how they carry the weight.

Jerry Mays was a good example...Warrick Dunn is a good example that carried it to the NFL.

Like Jamaal Evans, Peeples is low to the ground...hard to get a good lick on because of his quickness...and has tremendous balance.

You are correct that his speed and quickness will allow Peeples to compete in the return game.

Do not forget....we also have an offer out to Xavier Avery who we like better than Tauren Poole...as is Richard Watson and Debokie (who is likely going to California). We also want Ralph Bolden badly...as we think he could also be a good DB if he did not win a spot at TB.

So...Poole has Peeples, Bolden, Watson, Avery, and Deboskie ahead of him right now...but everything is always subject to change.

I said it was happening, now watch the snowball continue...a certain big lineman will be in the fold soon

Bolden doesn't even have an offer from us. BUT, I won't doubt your information. It's usually accurate.

Ooo! Ooo! Oooooo!!!

That would be very nice.

Techbert,
remembering a certain defensive tackle that anchored our last national championship line

Actually he does, I dont think hes the next to commit I just put him in there as the next running back but he will likely play DB. The next commit will likely be a big lineman or a certain cornerback.

I'm just going by Scouts free access information. My guess is it hasn't been updated.
