TB Bucs board is allready talking about Demaryius Thomas.

Wow. He really is a big fan of DT, isn't he?

I sure hope he is right!

Not arguing about DT's potential, but you have to question a guy's judgement when he says this:

"I have seen Calvin play in person... He is a great talent, but he is too raw. He hugs the sidelines, and he drops some of the simplest passes..."

Sounds to me like he's still not over the fact that the Bucs weren't able to get Calvin. Anyway, thought it was worth a mention.

Yeah I saw that too. I think he was still pissed the Buc's did not get him.

I'll be a little more convinced when I see him make some difficult catches and make all the possession receiver type catches as well.
There are a lot of receivers that get a lot of hype that don't live up to it. Dropping the catches that should/have to be made. UGA had a couple of guys like this the last couple of years and it really, really hurt them. Massaquoi is who I'm thinking of mainly.

Nothing I have heard from practice reports indicates DT is anywhere near as fast as Calvin.

What I have heard about DT is: solid posession reciever with great hands and body consciousness. Does not achieve great seperation, but has a knack for using his body to shield off the defender and come down with the ball. Strength and hands are comparable to Calvin, but not speed and agility. However, I have heard he has enough speed and agility to be a good college WR.

Haven't heard anything about route running or quickness of the line. I assume with his size he is hard to jam.

I do recall hearing that he made a lot of plays against the 1st team D during his redshirt year and that the DBs were saying he was tough to handle.

Massaquoi has always made the catches to beat GT.

This is not entirely inaccurate...he is known for dropping some simple passes such as screens, and he does have a tendancy to let himself get taken out of the game if he isn't involved early. No doubt some of it was because of his QB, but it still bears mentioning. Doesn't change my thinking that he'll be one of the all time greats in the NFL...no one comes out of college completely polished, especially not a junior.

Are we turning into the mutts? Are we going to be calling every reciever the next Calvin like they're always talking about the next Herschel?

Calvin was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of player, IMO.

Excellent point!

I completely agree knox. Like I said, I'm not knocking DT's talent, but I'm not sure that any receiver can be mentioned in the same breath/sentence/discussion as Calvin until they show me a lot, and I mean a lot, on the field.

The first thing they'll have to show me is a 3 TD performance capped by the game winner with little to no time on the clock against Clemson ... as a freshman!

Huh, I thought you already were.

Also, I thought that Thomas was a hurdles champ at West Laurens. Can anyone confirm?
