If we do not have any more surprises, do not lose a lot of players to injuries, have an adequate running game, and can shore up the DT position, we will have at least a 7-5 year and go to another bowl game.

If we lose many more players to academic or physical casualties, all bets are off. We will struggle for survival.

Assuming the above do not become problems, I think we will have a good year, and with a few breaks, could have an 8-4 or better year.

I believe the ineptness of the passing game hurt us worse last year in more critical situations than the running game.

I believe Gailey will try to establish a good running game which is essential to a good passing game. You cannot win consistently unless you can run and pass effectively. A one dimensional team will always get you in trouble.

The passing game will be much improved over last year.

The running game will not be as good as it was under Hollings, unless someone steps forward. However, since the running game is the forte of Gailey, I look for it to be effective.

If it is effective, we will have a dominating offense. If it is not effective, we will still be better offensively this year than we were last year, but will struggle in the tough games.

Look for the offense to put more points on the board than last year.

The defense could be exceptional if the defensive tackle position is effective. It will still be good with only moderate success at the DT position.

All of the above should lead to a good to great season depending on the aforementioned avoidance of additonal player losses.

OFFENSE

Strong at quarterback,
Strong at Tight End, look for Cooper to break out,
Strong at Wide Receiver,
Strong at Offensive line,
Strong to adequate at Fullback depending on Matthews at this position,
Questionable at running back.

DEFENSE

Strong at the Safety positions,
Strong at the Cornerback positions,
Strong at the Linebacker positions,
Strong to adequate at the Defensive End positions depending on where Matthews and Gathers play.
Defensive Tackle position unsettled at this particular time. Will have to see what transpires during Fall practice.

i expect a bowl game from next season.

This is one of the fun times of the season, when we get to prognosticate.

Prognosticating is fun, but can be embarrassing later in the season.

In a few weeks, I will go back and edit all of my guesses, so no one can see how bad they were.

Just kidding!

You're quite an optimist. If we don't get improved quarterback play(and there where no signs of it this spring)we are a 4 or 5 win team based on a reasonable level of luck. I personally believe if we are very fortunate in the injury department and get solid QB play we could win 7. But anything over 7 games would be amazing in my book.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">there were definite signs of improvement of QB play in the spring. bilbo was taking first team snaps.

that in itself was a sign of improvement in my eyes.

I'm hoping that with all of the bad luck that GT had last year, we'll have good fortune this year. If we don't turn the ball over and get good leadership at QB and with a bounce or two in our favor, I'm thinking that 7 wins is a possibility.

If nothing else, I want to see the bowl streak kept alive. Hopefully we will move on to better things from there.

Rod... I see you've drawn the line in the sand for gailey & 7 wins is his benchmark... It appears you feel the talent available is 7 win talent... I have just printed off your post & filed it away for safe keeping...

Talking to a vandy fan last night, he is counting tech as one of their 4 wins.

I'm hoping the season is going to be better than I feel it is going to be.

Ahso... the 1st 2 qualifications are subjective... (open for interpretation & debate as to what is fair & reasonable) last 2 are coaching matters.. (running game & DT positions.. i.e, can these coaches make chicken salad)

As for:
Truth - First liar doesn't have a chance
Justice - is blind but can smell money
The Americam way - I want it all, right now and exactly the way I want it, and someone else will pay for it.

BeeBad, that is no problem. I hope you included the first two paragraphs listing the qualifications for the expected record.

There were four qualifying points to consider to meet those expectations.
