When CPJ whooped the Dawgs in his first game against them, I wondered how many other Tech coaches beat the fleabags in their first game.

Here is what I put together (Tech score shown first).

Heisman .... 1904 .. 23 ... 6
Alexander .. 1925 ... 3 ... 0 *
Dodd ....... 1945 ... 0 .. 33
Carson ..... 1967 .. 14 .. 21
Fulcher .... 1972 ... 7 .. 27
Rodgers .... 1974 .. 34 .. 14
Curry ...... 1980 .. 20 .. 38
Ross ....... 1987 .. 16 .. 30
some guy ... 1992 .. 17 .. 31
O'Leary .... 1994 .. 10 .. 48
Gailey ..... 2002 ... 7 .. 51
Johnson .... 2009 .. 45 .. 42

* Coach Alex beat UGa the first time he played them as did Heisman. What's interesting though is that Coach Alex took over in 1920 but, for some reason, the first Tech-UGa game after that was not played until 1925.

Just finding a way to pass the time till Kickoff.

And once again, Gailey takes the crown for king of ****.

Tech and UGAG had a falling out over Tech playing during WW1, while UGAG didn't, and we didn't play each other for about 10 years. They fielded a team during WW2, but for some reason don't want to count our games. Makes no sense really.

I think the story is that UGAy had a derogatory reference to GT students avoiding military service in WWI on a homecoming parade float.

Evidently the folks up in the cesspool refused to apologize so we refused to play them in football again.

Dodd and O'Leary got whooped!

I don't know the state of our programs when they took over, but dang.

Once again, Johnson in very good company. Any time you look up his stats against other coaches it is always impressive to see the surrounding list!

I for one appreciate you posting coach "some guy" on there. It really shows the personal touch!

Not so sure about Dodd but O'Leary inherited about one of the biggest messes in our football program. Lets put it this way, read that first post and notice that the name of the coach preceding O'Leary has been stricken from the record.

That is also the score from the 1-10 year that O'Leary finished out as interim head coach after BL had been fired; the train was well off the track by the time he was in charge.

It's interesting that you say this about O'leary when in fact he personally told me this was one of the most talented teams he had ever seen. But for some reason certain people want to hail him as a coach who brought this program back from the dead when all he did was do his job and not play favorites and coach the guys.

It sounds like he did what it took to get the job done.

Similar to firefighter's just doing their job, when everyone else calls them heroes.

Didn't know that. Most of my information for that time period comes what you guys say here and wikipedia. Think I was in middle school when he took over...
