and it cannot be united under chan gailey, let him go now and cut our losses, we can still have a coach in place before signing day , hell we might even have a windfall with some new young energetic blood.....................

If Tech goes 10-2 next year with a New Years Day or better bowl will you folks maintain the same opinion? Just wondering if you are Tech fans first or you would rather be able to beat your chest and tell everyone how right you were?

I am sorry to ever see something like this posted. Regretfully, I agree.

I believe there are many of us that if not outright supporters of Gailey, were at least willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until last Saturday evening.

For me, the magnitude of the defeat was too great too ignore. Without re-hashing all the reasons, I believe the Head Coach must be accountable for the teams performance and after only one season, the greatest loss in school history is a loss Gailey can't be recover from.

I hope Gailey will resign, if not, I hope Dr. Clough insists that he be terminated.

While the number of posters that agree with me seems to be sizable for reasons I can't understand, there is also a sizable number that want him to be given a second chance.

Not sure how it will turn out, but it really is a sad situation we find ourselves in.

You're right GTrod, MsTech probably doesn't beat her chest under any circumstance :-).

It is to Gailey's and Tech's benefit to resign this morning! I don't want a repeat of last years recruiting effort or a complete digress into a repeat of the Lewis era.

Agree 100%. Cut the losses and learn from what went wrong in the last search. Namely, allowing Braine to run around secretly to pull a real "coup" with this guy. I'd say let the people like Kim King who know what it is like to don the white and gold and do battle with Georgia have some input.

Do I think Gailey will be fired? No, not a chance. Will he resign? If he feels there are a sufficient number of Tech fans wishing him to do so, it is within the reason of possibility.

Do I want him fired? No, we need to first correct problems causing our demise.

If Gailey possibly resigns, I think it most appropriate to tell O'Brien he will not be around next year under any circumstances.

The reason I think he deserves another year, is to get rid of O'Brien and see if the players perform better under Gailey without divided loyalty. It is only logical, many of the present players would be more loyal to O'Brien than Gailey, because they have been under O'Brien for several years.

With O'Brien out of the picture, there could be no divided loyalties among the players and no distractions from divided influences. If there happens to be any undercurrents due to the divided loyalties, it would not be fair to get rid of Gailey and reward O'Brien and any players causing probems.

That is the main reason I think Gailey should have another year without O'Brien at Tech.

Ahsoisee,

I agree that BO'B and the rest of the staff has got to fall under close examination. I suspect (but am not privileged to know) that at least one coach has undermined Gailey).

Having said that, in business it's not uncommon at all for a new CEO to be brought in from the outside and not just clean house, but to work with an evaluate the existing staff, making changes as necessary.

My point is, the new CEO has got to be strong enough to stop the crapola quickly and take charge. If he can't he ain't the man. If he is being blocked from above, Dr. Clough should have stepped in to correct the matter before the season unraveled.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I believe Gailey wasn't strong enough to keep order in the house. Which is why I believe Gailey needs to go now.

71, I have posted basically the same thoughts as yours during the season. Gailey set himself up as a CEO when he decided not to be hands-on, but to coach from the CEO's vantaqe point. You are correct, when you take this approach, you must act swiftly to correct problems within the organization (football factory).

Since Gailey is ultimately responsible for all facets of the team, he failed to make needed adjustments and changes. For that reason, he has failed this year, and any consequences were at his own hands.

Even if their were some player undercurrents and divided loyalties, it was up to Gailey to make changes and solve the problems as they reared their ugly heads. He may have attempted to solve them, but he did not do it effectively, so he is still ultimately at fault.

Ahsoisee,

Should we take this as a sign, you are shifting over to a "Gailey has to go now" position?

Agree 100% with ahoisee and 71's CEO analogy. When he saw that O'Brien was looking hard for another job he should have cut his losses and let him go back then. Gailey hasn't done a very good job this year making the necessary adjustments and hard-decisions that are required from a coach who runs his management style.

Again, I think you'll see a different style in the near future since he now realizes it isn't a walk in the park & I'm sure he has gotten some heat from people around the program. I think most coaches probably struggle when they come from the pros to college initially.

It is very normal and natural that a coach like O'leary, that had a good staff, and then got selected for one of the most prestigious coaching jobs in America, would want to take some of his best coaches with him. It is hard to see how anyone can complain about assistant coaches going with their head coach...it happens all the time.

When that didn't work out due to unusual circumstances, these same coaches went back to work and won an impressive game against #9BCS Stanford.

When a terrible mistake was made and this staff was not retained, it was still natural for the new coach to keep one of the best coaches off the old staff, to try and hold the team and recruiting together, while the new head coach was still in Miami, taking his own sweet time about getting started on his new job.

O'brien did an absolutely magnificent job in this capacity and was rewarded by the title of assistant head coach. He was also promised in public by the new head coach that he would be allowed to be offensive coordinator without unnecessary interference by the head coach.

This was a complete lie by the head coach. He has not allowed O'brien to do his job and the results (Ugag game in particular) show bright and clear.

Nate Stimson has pointed this out in his posts on the hive. O'brien was kept as a scapegoat and will probably be sacrificed at season's end.

But the truth of the matter is that O'brien is probably the best coach we have....if he didn't have the worst head coach in college football history preventing him from doing his job.

BeeWare, "ho hum!".

71, no I am not changing my stand on Gailey's future at this point. I still think he should be given next year to see the trend the program will take, but he must do it without O'Brien.

There is another factor here also.

O'Brien knows nothing about offense, other than the little that has rubbed off on him from Friegden. To know the offense that Friegden runs and to know some of his decisions does not mean O'Brien has the same analytical brain that is in Friegden's head. Having studied under Friegden does not make O'Brien another Friegden.

It has been obvious, O'brien does not know how to develop a quarterback, nor run an offense like Friegden. He is floundering since Friegden and Godsey have left. O'Brien was a defensive player and is no "little Friegden".

Nix has a tremendous bio indicating he flourishes as an offensive coordinator. It does not hurt that he was a very good quarterback at Auburn. He is one of the bright spots at Tech this past year. He has coached the running backs well, even through many injuries at that position.

If he is not made offensive coordinator next year at Tech, some other team will take him as an offensive coordinator and leave us with BOB. Nix, at the least, should have been the QB coach along with the backs this year.

I disagree about O'brien. He is held in high esteem by both Fridgen and O'leary. He was well thought of by us until this year. We will get to see just how bad BOB was next year when Gailey has his own man in the position.O'Brien will follow GOL to his next assignment at Michigan State or Syracuse. I believe you will see how good he is then. IMHO we saw the Gailey offense this year and it will repeat next year. It will be conservative and boring! We generally do not have the athletes to really play power football but maybe Chan can change and condition our players and make this happen with his handpicked OC. Remember Hollings will return and our offense will be based around him.

Ralph left us before the bowl game w/ Miami to take the MD job which he richly deserved and wanted;however this left us w/BOB in charge of offense and we lost the game to Miami. Maybe we would have won it with Ralph, maybe not , but we would surely have played better! Evidently Ralph felt no obligation to Tech to stay through the bowl game;his obligation was to his new employer and alma mater to get the program going ASAP which he has done a masterful job of.However he looked sad sitting alone at the bowl, and was surprised that many players, especially Godsey, were not particularly interested in seeing him before the game. Gailey, on the other hand, felt the obligation to Miami to finish out the season and to try to work w/the GT program also. Frankly I think that says a lot for him; maybe he has screwed up royally this year but I think he deserves one more year to prove himself.

Selah.
