Tech Played Duke & Tulane Every Year For A Long

Time and most years those were two victories we could chalk up … what happened? Of course my answer is pretty short …. The Clown. We knew the first year or two transitioning from CPJ would be challenging but I believe a good coach could have gone .500 those first two years. But I can’t figure out why we can’t recruit a few DL that are stout. I watched Tulane’s DL whip up on Ole Miss for most of the game, if Tulane’s very talented starting QB was healthy I believe they beat Ole Miss by two scores. Duke’s LOS was pretty competitive against Clemson although most of the time Clemson self destructed. I would like to hear more about our recruiting efforts and hear high school coaches talk about Tech recruiters knocking on their door. Right now The ACC Network is fired up about an undefeated Duke & ND matchup in a couple of weeks with a chance of College Game Day being there. It’s time for Tech alumni and sidewalk fans to step up and fill that stadium. The Clown is gone ….

it was once surmised that our academics standards make it difficult to land that badass DL guy.. but that doesnt really hold water when comparing to duke and tulane although they do have more flexibility to hide majors

I think playing a team only twice since 1982 makes it hard to get a yearly win off of them.

They aren't listed without clicking on each guy but the first 2 DLs for Duke I saw majored in continuing studies at Duke as a grad student after getting a degree in Visual Studies and the second was Media Studies. That's the first things that come to mind when I see schools rated higher than us.

DL’s have been an issue regardless of HC. This is nothing new. Outside of 2008, 2009 you really cant look at a time over the last 25 years where GT has had that top level DL talent. Whether that’s the schools recruiting limitations, lack of development or what not, it just is what it is.

That doesn't hold water from a degree perspective. We have a thread based BS in Literature, Media and Communications that provide the same with similar minors.

Went to one or two Tulane games back in the day. An old SEC rival. Hate their current uniforms.

If we want to survive in the modern CFB landscape, those are just about the last two teams we should be associating with.

Band trips every other year to Tulane were great in late 70s. Blowout the wave in the Superdome and head out to the Quarter when legal age was 18. Try to make sure you were back by the time the bus left for Atl on Sun morning. Bus down was usually a good time and bus back was silent as everyone was asleep.

The irony of a major that ends in the word Studies...

Idk why everybody’s creaming their pants over Duke all of a sudden. Yes they had a week 1 upset at home against a team that looks like it was overrated. They’ve got a pretty good QB right now - one who we beat with a patchwork OL and Jeff Sims.

If they had played a schedule with a pulse last season they win 4 games. Maybe we should start scheduling 2 non-P5s, Northwestern, and Kansas every year to go along with dodging Clemson / FSU most years. We’d be the same team but maybe Vandy fans would start wondering why they can’t win 8/9 games every year if GT can do it.
