As this is my first post, I feel the need to provide an introduction. The name stems from college days. In 200, I was progressing towards the GTREP program at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah when financial hardships forced me to pull out of college after the first year. I have since graduated from Westwood College of Technology with an Associate's degree in Computer Network Engineering, but would still oneday like to obtain my Bachelor's of Civil Engineering from Tech.

As for how I came across this particular forum, I lurked on several before realizing this was one of the more intellectual / peaceful boards out there for Techies.

Now for the post at hand:
I have been to several UGA games (including Tech/UGA) in Athens, but Tec/Miami will be my first GT game. My wife is a huge UGA fan, so I need to show her a good time if I ever want to make a second trip to Bobby Dodd. With this game being homecoming, there is bound to be plenty to see and do. We already have our tickets (section 111 / row 29), but I'd like any other advice you can give me. The usual: where to tailgate, when to arrive, how long before the game to head to the stadium, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

First of all --you must be there on campus for the Ramlin Wreck competition amongst the frats.Someone can give you the time frame. Stop at the Varsity[just across from campus} for a dog/burger and a real Tech flavor. There are hundreds of good restaurants in town--stay a little ways from downtown ---there will be lots of places with good eats nearby. If its a nite game, dont plan on rushing back to your room[unless you're downtown]--the crowds around campus and a few inebriated fans will slow you down.

What was tuition in the year 200? :p

I know you can't be serious about this.

If you can't afford the divorce, or don't know how to just disappear, you can resort to the following:

  1. Have your bride call me.
  2. Explain to her that you are a fan of college football.
  3. Take her to the Cheetah Club for post game hors D'vours. I hear the atmosphere is enchanting.
  4. Have your bride call me again. I can explain everything.
  5. Just tell Her you are sorry, but have to do what is right.
  6. Buy her a bulldawg pup to take care of at home so you can get to the game without having to make excuses for being a TECH fan.
First post or not, you need to start wearing the "Yellow Britches" now before it gets out of control.
You have come to the right place!
GO JACKETS! TO HELL WITH GEORGIA. :blue:

Not the amount of responses I had hoped for, but I do appreciate the information provided by wilmoo. My wife and I love old cars so the Ramblin Wreck contest should be good. I'm sure we'll make a stop by the Varsity at some point as well.

As for affording the divorce, there's a little Yellow Jacket on the way so that's out of the question. We get along fine the whole year exept the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Then it's me versus the whole family.

will you be staying in atl either fri or sat night or making it a day trip?

Do you have kids?

Tailgaiting is mostly right on campus but some of the lots require a pass.

Other than just normal tailgating - i would recomend checking out the wreck parade - it's really cool and definately unique. and also maybe walking around campus and see some of the fraternity/sorioty displays.

I like to go to the 5th street bookstore area - there are couple of places to get a cold beverage and the GT barnes and noble bookstore is pretty cool.

I don't know if this is in poor taste or against board rules but you might want to post this on the hive - another GT board. I personally prefer this board for discussing football but the hive is a little more active and i've seen a much larger response there to post like your in the past - even from rival fans.

Rule #1: Be Careful of Pockets. But it was funny.

Here's the deal:
For Homecoming, the Ramblin Wreck Parade is around 9:00 on Saturday morning. That's great when it's a 12:00 game but not so great when it's 8:00 pm. Tech-Miami is likely to be 3:30 or later.

So if you're at a local hotel you may want to take your wife back to let her have some time to herself in between. If she's the tailgating type, I find that there is plenty to do and the day flies by. (If it's a night game and you see the Ramblin Wreck Parade, then I'd definitely see something else in between like the hotel, etc.).

If you are arriving on Friday night, one of my favorite events is the Mini-500. It's pretty funny and yet pretty strenuous and see all different emotions during the race. It's at 5:00 on Friday at Peter's Park, right next to the stadium.

There will also be all kinds of Homecoming activities, including Guest Speakers, etc. if that is up your alley. Check out the list when it comes out.

As to tailgating, you're welcome to join us right in the middle of campus (right at the end of the Ramblin Wreck Parade and we have access to indoor bathrooms, etc.). I recommend walking around the campus, checking out the Bookstore (just up the hill from us)attending Yellow Jacket Alley 2.5 hours before the game (also just around the corner), possibly going to the Varsity depending on game time, etc.

If you join any of the other groups, most that are accessible are located a bit away from the stadium (Physics Lot, Student Center lawn areas, etc.). Parking out there is pretty easy to figure out. Otherwise, if you want to park closer to the game, then I'd suggest any of the many parking garages on or near Spring Street between North and 10th (Tech hotel is good enough).

If you are staying at a downtown hotel, you don't even have to park at Tech. Take the subway to North Avenue and walk four blocks to the stadium.

Tech-Miami is a big game. I think you are going to like it.
p.s. Homecoming is fun because of the displays out front and it's Fall weather. Definitely plan to walk around the fraternity houses for this. And I personally love watching the band march down the Hill before the game. They also put on a concert now at the bottom of the Hill about one hour before game time.

Just be prepared for the Ramblin' Wreck to make it two straight against scUM!

Just wanted to revisit this post to say thanks to everyone for their advice. I'll be booking my hotel room soon. I'll definitely swing by and say hi - especially since there will be indoor bathrooms - you know how pregnant women are. Now I just have to let the excitement build for two months.
