Tech\'s Biggest Rivals

How would y'all rank Tech's biggest Football rivals? Here is my Top 3 in this order.

1. UGA (I don't think many would challenge this)
2. Clemson
3. FSU

After that I could say alot of teams.

Are our basketball rivals different do you think?

UGA is number 1, any sport always.

Clemson is a good #2 in football and baseball, but not basketball. I'd throw UVA in at #2 there.

I don't agree that FSU is a big rival in any sport. They have whipped us in football, baseball is ok, but we're both concerned with other schools, and they don't care about basketball. It's like UGA and UF, plenty of UGA fans I know will tell you that Florida is one of their biggest rivals, some even say bigger than us. But the Florida fans just think of it as a big party where they beat UGA into the ground. They don't consider UGA a rival at all. I guess I'm just saying that for it to be a rivalry BOTH sides have to see it as such. I don't think FSU sees us as a rival.

That said, my #3 for football would probably be UVA. At least for the past decade or so it has been.

FSU is definitely OUR second biggest rivalry outside of UGA in football. Say what you want about competitiveness, losing the last 10 games, etc, but we are the closest ACC school to them, and I don't think any other ACC school has had as many close games with them (including UVA, UNC, NCST, schools that have actually beaten the 'Noles). I think most Jacket fans will tell you the game they want to win the most (other than UGA) is FSU.

I have never felt any sort of animosity or rivalry with Clemson, even though it would seem as though one would have developed. I think that may come from the fact that we dominated them for so long. Virginia there is loads of animosity.
How I would rank the rivalries:

FOOTBALL
1) UGA always
2) FSU
3) UVA
4) Clem's Son
5) UNC
6) NCST
7) Dook (history)
8) UMd (a lot higher THIS year...payback is a bitch)
9) Wake

BBALL
1) UGA always
2) Dook
3) UVA
4) UNC
5) NCST
6) UMd
7) Clem's Son
8) Wake

IMO, Clemson is easily our 2nd biggest rival. FSU would be a rivalry, but we haven't beaten them. We haven't earned the right to be called a "rival"...even though Bowden has mentioned that Tech is a "natural rival"...that's purely a geographical thing.

I'd say its:
1) UGA
2) Clemson
3) UVA (not a natural, but the games have been classics)
4) FSU

FSU will move up to #3 after we start beating them. This is a good year to start that.

A rivalry has to go both ways, or it isn't a rivalry. So I agree with Culb that since FSU regularly beats us, to them we're just another team. UGA is a rival, they want to beat us as bad as we want to beat them, same with Clemson. The rest of our opponents are games we want to win, but not exactly rivals. If Auburn comes on schedule regularly and we beat them a couple of times, a very ancient rivalry will be back and be far more intense than competition with, say, Wake Forest will ever be. The same is true for ND, Tennessee, and Alabama.

I can remember when Auburn was a strong #2. Those days are long gone, and it is a shame, with the Auburn campus so close to Atlanta.

I can remember in he '80's when Auburn was a strong #2 rival, too. Tech would be smart to put them back on the schedule permanently, as a opener or second game.
