Tech\'s passing camp....

For anyone with some information......

When is it? I read locally that the upcoming junior quarterback at Dalton High, Harrison Scott will be there.

Any idea who else will be there?

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

There are a couple of camps coming up the weekends of the 8th and 15th as I understand it. We are done at QB unless Nesbitt commits. No more QB's will get offers barring some unforeseen circumstance.

I do know that Roddy Jones (again), Willie White, Logan Walls, Nic Claytor, Jacoby Monroe, and Chad Diehl are coming to the July camps...just off the top of my head.

Of course, Gilbert, Threet, Dwyer, Roddy Jones, and Donley were at the June camps.

Hivered: I was thinking more about upcoming juniors at the passing camp....i.e. Harrison Scott of Dalton. Do you have any information on teams or players that will be there?

I'm sure Chan Gailey and the staff will be watching very intently to get some early reads for the class of 2007.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

you are correct...sorry I was not paying attention.

I am so intrigued with this class I have not moved on to the juniors yet! I must admit that in some years I started looking a bit earlier than I would have liked!

I do not have any real information on rising juniors yet...but I do know the coaches are excited about using the "recruiting system" in place this year on the rising juniors for TWO years. It should only get better with time.

State:

A week ago, Matt Lentz was scheduled to go to the Tech passing camp. I am not sure if the Threet signing will change his plans since I have been told that the Tech camp is now getting good press as a means for college exposure which I think Matt is looking for.

Some background: Matt is a year older than my son and played on pee-wee football together. I have coached him in church basketball up until his 10th grade when he concentrated on his football. Some may say his stats (over 40 passing TD's using the spread) is a product of the system they run at Greenville High, but they could also possibly say the same about W Korn and his stats.

I am not qualified to know if Matt is a major D1 prospect, but I do know there are not many kids his age who have the leadership and charisma Matt has displayed since an early age. Nebraska is recruiting him heavily but possibly more as a free safety and I think he really wants to a chance to compete at QB. His parents pushed Tech early due to academics- in any event, if it can't be at Tech, I hope he gets a chance to shine in the passing camp and draws more offers- just not UGA....

Upcoming camps

slj,

We have FULL camps the next two weekends (7/8 & 7/15)

There are FIVE 7-on-7 passing camps next week...one each day M-F.

2ndgenjacket: I have watched film on Lentz, I like him alot.

If we didn't get Threet and/or Nesbitt I think Lentz would be a good alternative.

Wow! Our coaching staff sure will be busy! I love it! A lot of people just don't understand how valuable these camps are....for our coaching staff and for the athletes attending. The instuction from our coaches will be invaluable to these kids....and the benefits for our staff are numerous when it comes to kids who have been offered, could be offered, and in just getting the good name of Georgia Tech football into the homes and schools all over Georgia....from Folkston to Valdosta to Dalton....and all over the south.

Can someone please explain the evolution of this development with the Tech passing camp?
It sure seems like it's been less than a year that a popular thought was that Ga. Tech would never be able to sign another great QB.

I exaggerate, but you know what I mean. Who or whom is responsible for this newly developed QB prospect notoriety?

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

One thing on these passing camps, Tech is in no way involved other than being the host school. They can come out, evaluate, but are not allowed to talk to the players. It is a great way to evaluate players though, you get to see the QB's, WR's, LB's, and DB's in game like situations without using your one trip to a HS game per season. Passing leagues are much different than HS camps where our coaches are involved with instructing the players. We finished a big passing tournament down at Clemson a few weeks ago and this is how theirs were handled. Any other passing league specific questions and I will try my best to answer.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

You got me confused. Who is doing the coaching? I know our coaches can't talk to players specifically about coming to Tech. But I would assume that most players at passing camps aren't going to there with hope of getting a scholarship....but for the drills, the coaching.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

SL brings up a very good question. If college coaches can't directly speak with the recruits at the camps, who is?

If I understand what the passing camps are, they are like combines for high schoolers with evaluation only. Is that right?

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

If the passing camps are what I think they are, think of it as a 7 on 7 tournament, it's basicly glorified touch football, helmets only, HS coaches in a controlled scrimmage with just QB, RB, WR' against LB's and DB's.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

My son went to Danny Hall's baseball camp one year and the instruction was done mostly by Tech players with Hall and other coaches having some minor involvement. I would have thought that the normal football camps were the same way.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

We are evaluating the players at our camps not the 7 on 7 camps. At our camps the coaches run the recruits through a regualar Ga. Tech practice. That is where Threet put on his show.

Re: Tech\'s passing camp....

Thanks to everyone for the clarifications.

My main point is that the passing camp guys are exposed to Georgia Tech and Georgia Tech football.....allbeit from a distance. So it benefits both the players....expert instruction....and our program because the kids go back to their schools and families talking up Georgia Tech.
